My Chevy Equinox 2005 is over heating.

The unlikely one is the head gasket. Do you have water in your oil, do you have mayonnaise on the oil filler cap?

If the area under the thermostat is dry, the most likely issue is water pump failure. Empty the system, backflush the radiator and heater hoses with a garden hose. Replace the water pump and thermostat. Fill the system with coolant, turn the engine on, heater to maximum temperature and keep topping up the radiator until the coolant is hot and the thermostat opens. Squeezing the top and bottom radiator hoses also helps to get air out. Turn off the engine and top up the radiator one last time. Put the cap on and then top up the expansion reservoir.

One thing often overlooked with overheating issues, make sure the radiator fan is working properly.

2006 chevy equinox over heating. Replaced temp sensor, thermostat, cooling fans, flushed system. I have no idea how to check radiator myself instead of money flying out the window. What's the problem?

Get the engine warm and put the interia heater on hot, with the engine idling are the heaters hot ? If not or they get warm by reving the engine id be looking at the water pump

Overheating

Did you replace the thermostat as well? That could be your problem. Also make sure your radiator and reservoir are full.

Overheated, changed water pump and thermostat. Overheated again within a week.

Check the cooling fan operation. It's also possible that you have a blown head gasket.

I just changed the water pump, thermostat, and flushed the heater core. I ran the car for a while with the surge tank cover off and kept filling it. As soon as I got on th e-way it overheated.

The surge tank should only have a little water in it, not full. I hope you didn't overfill it, this can cause your problem, but I would look at the radiator and make sure it is not plugged and your cooling fans, make sure they are running as well. Then last but not least your water pump may be bad even though you changed it, check for good flow through the radiator, if flow is good and strong then check the fans. You have already done most of what can be done, make sure the thermostat is not in backwards, in fact take it out and see if the car runs cooler, this will help pinpoint the issue also.
