Yes!...If you have any coolant leaks anywhere the system will not retain enough coolant to circulate and will cause the engine to overheat.

....the anti freeze inside your car is usually caused by the heater core leaking ....if your antifreeze level goes to low due to this your car will def over heat ...first solve the leaky heater core ....(you usually need to replace it )...then see if that solves your over heating .....also replace your thermostate ....usually a good idea even if you think it's working

Yes this could be the problem and it is a very hard job to do. The dash will have to come out to get to the box that holds your heater core:)

Could be a blocked heater core. Could be a head gasket or a warped head or block if it got to hot at one time.

If engine overheats and I remove thermostat does it help?

This is the primary cause of engine overheating. Possible leak points include hoses, the radiator, water pump, thermostat housing, heater core, head gasket, freeze plugs, automatic transmission oil cooler, cylinder heads and block. Perform a pressure test.

2001 hyundai elantra heater only blows cold air,it overheats within a block of driving then car wont start for a couple hours what is the problem

Blocked cooling system most likely a stuck thermostat. The coolant is not circulation therefore not getting to heater core. Replace thermostat and it should be fixed

1989 jeep wrangler keeps overheating

Fill the rad or overflow bottle right to the top and run the engine with no cap on,if you see a constant flow of bubbles your head gasket is leaking or you have a crack somewhere in the cooling system.

On a 2006 1.3 Rocam. After a broken heater hose, the engine overheated, and I didn't notice until the bakkie lost power. I replaced the head gasket, with no success. The engine still overheated.

Have you checked to see if your fan is working ?
After performing your repairs, did you bleed the coolant system ? One way is to run vehicle with heaters running to make sure that air in the heater core / hoses is bleed.

Car overheated and lost all power. how do I get it to start?

ENGINE NOT GOING TO START IF GET TOO HOT FIRST THING I WOULD REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP THEN ADD COOLANT UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL CORRECT THATS WHEN THERMOSTAT OPEN UP AND TOP HOSE HOT.CHECK FOR LEAKING RADIATOR HOSES CHECK TOP RADIATOR HOSE CHECK BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSE.CHECK FOR LEAKS AROUND THE RADIATOR LOOK DOWN BELOW COOLANTS FANS CHECK FOR LEAKS AT RADIATOR CORES OR LEAKS AT THE RADIATOR PLASTIC SIDE CONTAINERS. CHECK FOR LEAKS AT WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE AND CHECK FOR LEAKS AT THE HEATER HOSES AROUND ENGINE BLOCK TO THE HEATER CORE HOSES. THERE IS A REASON CAR OVERHEAT.IF CAR OVERHEAT WHILE DRIVING YOU HAVE FAULTY THERMOSTAT OR LEAKING OUT COOLANT OR BLOWN HEAD GASKET.IF ENGINE OVER HEAT WHILE SITTING DURING A LONG IDLING PERIOD.YOU COULD HAVE FAULTY COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR OR FAULTY COOLING FAN FUSE OR RELAY.HOT WIRE COOLANT TO SEE IF IT RUNS IF NO REPLACE FAN MOTOR. IF YES FAN MOTOR COULD HAVE FAULTY WIRE OR PCM FAILURE. CHECK ENGINE CRANKCASE IF OIL LOOKS LIKE MILK SHAKE ENGINE HEAD GASKET LEAKING.
