Yes!...If you have any coolant leaks anywhere the system will not retain enough coolant to circulate and will cause the engine to overheat.
....the anti freeze inside your car is usually caused by the heater core leaking ....if your antifreeze level goes to low due to this your car will def over heat ...first solve the leaky heater core ....(you usually need to replace it )...then see if that solves your over heating .....also replace your thermostate ....usually a good idea even if you think it's working
Yes this could be the problem and it is a very hard job to do. The dash will have to come out to get to the box that holds your heater core:)
