CV joint in front axle. Maybe the right axle, but could be left. Check inside the wheel for greese. This indicates a leaking cv boot, which most often leads to the joint popping.

Struts might make noise as the suspension moves up and down. Try going in a circle in a flat parking lot - both directions. If the popping is rythmic, I'd still say CV joint. I've gotten bad axles before. The suspension might pop a little, but it shouldn't continue if the car is riding smoothly.
