The brake switch is always located on the upper end of the brake pedal or screw linkage behind the pedal shaft in American made autos. You need to move the driver's seat full aft for room to be able to lay down facing up with a flashlight to see it. It is the very small switch that the brake pedal itself rests against, almost before the pedal linkage goes out the passenger compartment to the engine area.

You may have a failed/failing brake light switch. I would look under the hood, find the brake master cylinder. Generally, the brake light switch is located on the master cylinder. Last time I messed with one, it was easy to fix. The hassle was bleeding the brakes afterward.
If none of the brake lights work, replace the switch on the brake pedal. You will find it by following the brake pedal lever upward. They cost around $15 at most auto parts stores, and are awkward but not difficult to replace.
When you release the brake pedal, there is a switch underneath the brake pedal that disconnects the circuit to your brake lights causing your brake lights to switch off. Sometimes this brake light switch will go bad and need replacement. If your brake light stays on after you turn your car or truck off and you don't want to run your battery down, you may be able to get down underneath the brake pedal and manually pull up on the brake light switch to deactivate it until you can get it repaired. and i think you can make a diagnostic by yourself and the Autel MaxiDAS DS708can help you
the turn signal light switch has nothing to do with the brake lights, the problem is most likely the brake light switch which you should find around the area of the brake pedal it may be faulty or has come loose & needs to be adjusted & tightened back up........hope this helps......cheers.
2 different parts to check. First, find the switch that is touching the arm that holds your brake pedal. This is your brake switch. Pull the connector off the switch. If the brake lights go out, the switch is the problem. Make sure it is adjusted so that the pedal pushes in the switch when you let off the brake. If it does, then the switch is not closing properly and should be replaced. If the pedal arm is not pushing the button in on the switch, try to adjust it so that it does, or get some help adjusting it.
Now, if your switch is OK, but the brake lights are still on, find the brake light relay in the engine compartment fusebox. Pull out the relay and see if the light go out. If yes, the relay is stuck closed or shorted. Replace the relay. Any questions, please let us know.
hi, if your brake lights wont turn off the the problem you are having is with the switch at the back of the brake pedal it may have come loose or need adjusting. to find the brake light switch you need to get on your hands and knees and have a close look at the brake pedal, follow the pedal to the top where it goes through into the bonnet and you should then see the brake light switch just behind the brake pedal at the top, it will have a couple of wires going to it now you can either remove the switch or disconect the wires to switch the brake lights off but you should be able to see how it works and adjust it so that your brake lights start working properly again.
Hi bkleyn,
You can adjust the brake light time at the brake light switch, which
you will find just over the brake pedal. By adjusting this switch away
from the striker plate on the pedal, you will bring on the brake lights
earlier.
Hope this helps you

Hi, next you need to find the brake light switch near the top of the brake pedal if a 2 pin plug then carefully put a fused jump wire to join the plug wires if the brake lights work you know its the switch if not you need to find out if you have a live to the switch and a circuit to the brake lights, hope this helps.
