Try pulling up the brake pedal with your foot,Sometimes your brake doesnt come back all the way,and the brake switch keeps the cruise from working. Also, check the fuse.If those answers dont help,It could be the swith itself is bad. Those can be bought at a parts store.

This problem can also be caused by the brake caliper bolt/guide pin sticking, either because brake pad dust is making the pin bind, or because the pin itself is bent. There are two pins on each brake caliper assembly.
To clean the pins, remove them and use steel wool to burnish the surface. Replacement is inexpensive - a pair costs about $10 from an auto parts store.

This problem can also be caused by one or more brake caliper pins sticking because brake dust makes them bind, or because one or more is bent. The pads don't go back to the open position, therefore it seems that the brakes are always on.
If this is the case, remove the pins and clean with steel wool or a wire brush and replace, or buy a new pair of pins for each caliper. The cost for a pair is around $10.00.
Bear in mind that if the pads are not retracting, excessive pad wear may be evident, or even damage to rotors (metal on metal)..

2005 ford freestar. sometimes the cruise works sometimes it doesn't

Could be any number of issues? Can you check for applicable trouble codes, relating to cruise control? Some of the national brand autostores will check codes for free.
With intermittent issues, have to do testing when problem is ongoing, or you can't find anything. Do you want to check voltage and ground circuit for your cruise control, meaning, check wire circuits using wiring diagrams?
Intermittent issues can be a pain to track.

My cruise control does work, push button to set then nothing

After much research & frustration, I learned this seems to be a fairly common problem with the Freestar. (along with many other problems.) We replaced the Brake Pressure Sensor and it corrected the cruise control problem and the Traction Control light. I think the part was about $30. & we were able to replace it ourselves. Hope this helps!

I own a 2004 ford freestar, where is the fuse located for the cruise control and what is the number of the fuse

The speed control system operates via the Smart Junction Box with various sensors over the SCP communications network.

The servo switch circuit is overload protected, but there does not appear to be a specific Cruise Control Fuse

Ford freestar 2004 the TRAC OFF message comes

I had the same problem and apparently fixed it by mistake. I replaced the cruise control deactivation switch under the master cylinder, hoping the cruise would be fixed. Some how with that the "trac off" light went out and gave me the ability to turn it on/off from the button again. The part was $30 from the local dealer and easy to replace. Before you run out to replace the switch check the connections on the old one. It plugs in upside down which may accumulate water from puddles and things causing connection issues ( a known problem ).
