The distributor cover is cracked. Just change that and it should be fine.

the 1994 Pontiac uses coil packs. Each pack powers 2 spark plugs. You can buy replacement packs for about $15 each. Remove the plug wires from the one that is sparking, remove the two bolts holding it down and lift the pack off. Reverse the process to install the new pack and you should be good to go.

Where can I buy one my local AutoZone was looking at me like I was crazy

  • William Alequin Jul 04, 2017

If your local AutoZone have no idea what you are talking about, change auto parts. Google 94 Pontiac Grand Prix Distributor images, you will see the cover or cap, take that picture with you and show it to them.

I have a 1994 pontiac grand prix and I see a spark coming from one of the spark plug boot can i fix without changing the spark plug wire

No, please change the wires. There is no repair for this. Also make sure they are routed properly through the clips that hold them away from the engine metal.

Removing Plug Wires from '02 Pontiac Grand Prix, 3.8 Liter V6

You will need to remove the coil packs first. To remove coil packs, undo 4 bolts and tip the coils over to the side.

Users on the internet say also that you can remove two engine top mounts to access the plug wires. See links below:

2005 Pontiac Grand Prix won't fire at plugs or distributed cap

My info doesn't show a distributor on this vehicle, it shows a coil pack. I guess I can't help you?
Usually if no spark at the spark plugs, I also check for fuel injector pulse. If you have neither one, I check for rpm signal and or security system issue.

Learning how to test a GM distributor less ignition system rather then guessing an replacing parts is the proper way to diagnose . Pulling a couple of pull wires of the same coil an having someone crank the engine over to see if there is spark would the first test . If there is no spark ,could be the ignition module , or the crankshaft postion sensor .

I ran a scanner on my 2002 pontiac grand prix 3100 V6 and it reads out as multiple misfire i already changed the spark plugs, what could the problem be?

A code “multiple misfire” may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

•Faulty spark plugs or wires
•Faulty coil (pack)
•Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
•Faulty fuel injector(s)
•Burned exhaust valve
•Faulty catalytic converter(s)
•Stuck/blocked EGR valve / passages
•Faulty camshaft position sensor
•Defective computer

If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.

Random misfires that jump around from one cylinder to another (read: P030x codes) also will set a P0300 code. The underlying cause is often a lean fuel condition, which may be due to a vacuum leak in the intake manifold or unmetered air getting past the airflow sensor, or an EGR valve that is stuck open.

Tune up

Well their is the basic tune up consisting of just spark plugs. Then their is the whole tune up package which is plugs, wires, and distributor.

1985 Grand Prix Spark Problem

The engine will run rough if only one wire has no spark but will run.
I think you have more than that.
For ignition spark system
1- check if you have spark at the coil then
2- check all wires spark with HEI spark tester
3- If only one wire has no spark then
3a- Distributor cap cracks inside or rotor defect
replace Distributor cap and rotor
4- replace wire defect or no spark test with HEI tester.
You will find your problem with this.
Hope it helps.
