Hello Byron Little,
Two engine sizes are listed for your vehicle...
(I selected 2.4L ... as an example... $22 cheaper
than the identical part on a 2.2L... ((same part..?))
>> Alternate/OEM Part Number(s): 22591938
As long as you understand running faulty equipment...
Negligence there from... rests with No ONE else...!!
Trying a new "sender" would be the FIRST, BEST,
EASIEST & CHEAPEST... experiment to try...
Problem:
The only SPEED SENSORS I am finding are
Wheel Speed... Once upon a time when things
were actually mechanical... the SPEED-O-METER
sensors were still on the transmission tail shaft...
(we only dreamt of ACTUAL wheel speeds
(some where you have a speedometer sending unit)).
After that you are pulling the INSTRUMENT CLUSTER...
IPCM (instrument panel cluster microprocessor)...
((TERRIBLE DRAWING)... Chevy interchangeable)).

I I recently went to a government speed awareness workshop (naughty boy!) and asked why all the cars I have recently driven (Vaux Zafira, Vectra, Astra, Honda Accord, Peugeot 106) were indicating a higher speed than my sat-nav. The answer they gave was that car manufacturers will always do this to err on the side of caution for boot-heavy drivers or drivers who neglect to check tyre pressures, so that in a court case they have one less thing to worry about. All these cars indicated about 5-10% over.

I have a 1985 fiero and had the same problem. Fiero do not have a speedometer cable the speed is sent from a governer on the tranz to the gauage. So in short the gauage needs to be replaced.
SOURCE: Speedometer not registering right speed.
replace a capacitor behind the panel (6.8uF 25V) with the new one.
