Hyundai Tucson 2L D runs fine for a few days than slows and surges. Sometimes no response from accelerator then pulls away slowly before picking up speed

Sounds like you have more power in the upper RPM's. Alot of cars feel the power band with-in 4K-5K RPM.

Waterpump, seems like a likley culprit. Your Ac compressor belt runs over your water pump. when the ac is on it puts more load on your engine , your water pump may be defected and not able to handle the extra load.
