Unplug one battery cable. Locate old air bag sensor near radiator support, which has the easy to locate yellow connector. Unhook yellow connector, remove bolt, then remove. Reverse order to reinstall, but don't forget to reattach batter cable.

12.3 volts & a battery over 4 years old or newer-- it's bad

Maybe the battery has dead cells, how old is the battery? There most likely is a manufactures warranty and may be replaced for free. You can also bring the battery in somewhere (like Autozone, Valvoline Oil Change, pretty much any car part store) and they can test the battery for you. Also make sure the connections are tight and no corrosion on the battery itself. I know I have a battery tester and it will tell you the health of the battery, which is what the auto part stores can also do, then you can go from there.

Did you get the wires all back in place? What voltage do you have at the output of the alternator? Measure the voltage with the engine running and not running.

This symptom is classic for a dead/dying battery. Have the battery load tested. If it shows the least bit flakey, replace it.

If it is more than 5 years old I would replace it as a preventative measure.

I believe you will find the battery is your problem.

check battery cables.make sure they are not loose are or corroded.if battery cables okay.problem could be faulty starter - electronic immobilizer control - ignition switch + check its fuse first.if you disconnect battery cables besure to turn off radio so you wont lose code.

Did you have the old alternator bench-tested before buying another? Same for the battery? Have to ask if the light is actually the battery light or check engine. GM lights will come on for periodic maintenence, as reminder.

Need a new battery first, or charge the battery...if the battery is over 3 years old, I would just replace it, also may need a higher output alternator with more amps, to run the electronic fuel injection, fuel pump, and ignition etc...
