SOURCE: my check engine light came

this is usually caused by a problem with the exhaust camshaft actuator. this engine uses variable camshaft timing. there is a gear mounted on the exhaust camshaft that rotates that changes valve timing. this can can be caused by a bad gear actuator or a bad solenoid. there is a sol mounted on the right front corner of cylinder head. you can start by replacing this part and see what happens

SOURCE: camshaft position sensor correlation bank 1 code

timing belt is off by a tooth or two. you probably didn\'t have to replace the coolant sensor; that code sets whenever the sensor is disconnected and the ignition is turned on; and it needs to be reset by disconnecting the battery or with a code reader. anyway, the crank/ cam sensors are out of sync. if you\'ve got the twin cam engine, they are a royal pain to get the belt to lay properly on the two cams.

Testimonial: "got it in time but it is giving a p0016 code, and at around 30 mph the rev limiter is coming on"

Remove the driver side rear ignition coil bolts. Reposition the coil. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector. # Use penetrating oil and allow the oil to soak around the CKP sensor prior to removing the sensor. You're looking at left, rear side of engine.

P0017 and p0014 cobalt 2009

So, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the codes are as follows.

P0017-Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation Bank 1 Sensor 'B'
Possible causes
- Mechanical timing fault
- Blocked oil passage
- Low oil level
- Faulty Exhaust ('B') Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor
- Faulty Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor

P0014-Camshaft Position 'B' Timing Over-Advanced or System PerformancePossible causes
- Dirty Oil
- Low engine oil level
- Faulty Exhaust Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid
- Exhaust Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid harness is open or shorted
- Exhaust Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)
Bank 1

So in short, you can try the oil change if its been a while, always a good practice, however the fact that its throwing both of these codes together, makes me heavily suspect that your car is experiencing the worst of the possible causes, all your symptoms are tell-tale signs of your cars timing being off, meaning a timing belt job is needed. I highly recommend trying your best not to drive that vehicle, if the timing belt grenades on you while your driving, it will cause catastrophic damage to your motor. I cannot stress to you enough to limit your driving. Timing belt jobs as a general rule of thumb, are anywhere from $700-$1000 depending on the shop, anything more and they are ripping you off. I hope this helps, Good Luck!

- Camshaft Position Sensor circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty Camshaft Position Sensor
- Faulty starter motor

Code p0019 p0018 p0008

P0019: Cam/Crankshaft Pos. Correlation Sensor B - Bank 2
P0018: Cam/Crankshaft Pos. Correlation Sensor A - Bank 2
P0008: Engine Position System Performance (Bank 1)

P0019 & P0018
- Dirty Oil
- Engine mechanical problems
- Timing belt jumped teeth

P0008
- Engine mechanical problems
- Incorrect timing chain
- Stretched timing chain
- Failed camshaft actuator or actuator solenoid

The Engine Control Module (ECM) monitors the position of both camshafts and the crankshaft. The ECM performs a test for misalignment between both camshafts on one bank of the engine and the crankshaft. During the test the ECM learns the position of the camshafts and the crankshaft. While the engine is idling, the ECM compares the position of both the camshafts and the crankshaft with the learned value. The ECM will set the P0008 code if both learned values for one bank of the engine are exceeding a calibrated threshold in the same direction.

I have a p0008 code & I'm worried

P0008 CADILLAC - Engine Positions System Performance Bank 1
The ECM detects that both camshafts on either bank of the engine are mis-aligned with the crankshaft for more than 4 seconds or a cumulative of 50 seconds.

Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

Tech notes
There is a factory service bulletin for the following Cadillac models:

2004-2008 Cadillac CTS SRX
2005-2008 Cadillac STS

The service bulletin suggest replacing the primary drive and both secondary drive timing chains. Contact your Cadillac dealer for more information. The repair could still be cover under factory warranty.
