SOURCE: replace fuel pump 2002 GMC Sierra

I don't think there is enought slack to drop the tank without unhooking the lines. You can take this advise if you want or not its up to you, but i always found it easier to unbolt the bed and lift it back about a foot and i could get right at the sender where the pump is and in some cases i dident even have to unhook the fuel lines, pull the sending unit out chg. the pump and put it back together. Or you can do it the other way, unhook the lines, electrical wires, filler hose, and straps, if its got gas in it better have some help 8# a gal. adds up.

SOURCE: REPLACING FUEL TANK STRAPS

I know it can be a bear if the bolts and pins are rusted. Unless the new straps are OEM, some after market straps don't fit quite as well and you need Godzilla strength to manover them into place to get them pinned and bolted back up.
You shouldn't have to drop the tank as long as you do the straps one at a time. Get a floor jack, transmission jack or even a motorcycle jack and place wood under the gas tank and do one strap at a time. I used a second jack to help push the strap in place so I could push it into place on a 97 Dakota. Good luck and sometimes it goes smooth but, some times it makes a preacher say things they wouldn't say in church. :)

All straps bolts screws have been removed from beneath the Acura1999TL2.5 gas tank but it won't drop why??are there screws inside the car?

There are no screws inside, sometimes the insulators used between the tank and bottom of car will hold the tank like glue. Making sure all straps are off, pry between the bottom of the car and tank. Making sure not to puncture the tank.

How do you drop the fuel tank on a 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan to replace the fuel filter?

On most these, there are two tank straps which are bolted to the undercarriage which hold the tank in position. It's easier to do with the tank empty or very close to empty. Place something under it to support it such as a jack and remove the bolts holding the tank straps in place, that should let the tank drop out, then you can remove the connections for fuel and electrical.

How do you replace a fuel pump on 1994 jeep grand cherokee

Disconnect the battery, Jack the rear up on stable jack stands. use a smaller jack with a piece of wood to stable the load under the tank. You will see 2 band straps under the tank, remove the bolts, only 1 side have bolts, the other side swings down. The hose from the gas cap will have to be disconnected, which can be !!!!! when in-stalling. you can then drop the gas tank down easily with the jack just a bit, enough to reach around to unplug the fuel pump plug, and the gas lines. Once it's removed, the pump has a big screw on ring, take it off and the fuel pump can be pulled out.

Fuel pump - 2003 Pontiac Grand Am

2003 Grand Am GT,You have to drop the fuel tank, remove heat shield, remove all lines, electrical plug ins, then you are ready to do straps,be sure to go get extra nut and bolts for straps (2) of them had to cut off old ones, once straps are off depending on how much gas is in the tank used jack to lower tank, fuel pump was a twist off with locking mechanisms on top of tank, used a rubber malet and screw driver to loosen, pull out after diconnecting plug ins etc, replace blue plug in for harness to fit new pump, was recommended since it could corrode, lifted tank back up connected wires, lines etc,put key in on position 3-4 times for pump to pump, car started 1st time,my first fuel pump took my son and I 2 1/2 hours, new pump $250.00 wire harness $15.00 and two new nuts and bolts $3.25

I need to remove fuel tank for cleaning

Is it welded at the one end, or is it pinned like a hinge? Or a hook?

Most gas tanks use two straps that are fixed to the vehicle chassis at one end by pin or keylike slot, and bolted at the other. Remove bolts, tank drops down whlie straps remain under tank.
