ABS light and brake light stay on modt of the time. Brake pedal hard to push on occasion then releases and works fine.

  • muhekwesley Jul 28, 2009

    I have a 2000 E450 super duty chassis under a class C Dutcman RV.

The ABS and Brake light stay on most of the time. Recently when the lights were off and comming to a stop the brake pedal was hard to push at the beginning then released and braked properly and the lights came back on. The brake pads and calipers were recently replaced along with the front sensors. The problem existed before the brake repairs were made and no change. I was going to pull and clean the rear sensor. Just hoping it's not the module.

I am guessing the truck is a 4 wheel drive... if that is the case, check your front wheel bearings. most vehicles that now use a hub and bearing assembly with built in ABS are common issues and easy repairs on MOST VEHICLES.

Our ABS light stays on constantly .Lose brake pedal occasionly. Replaced brake pads, caliphers, rotors. Still have ABS light on and lose brake partically.

If you have brake fade that is if you hold the brake pedal down and it slowly goes down to the floor you probably need a master cylinder

What causes the dash brake indicator to stay on?

First of all, the abs problem... NO do not start there, start with checking your brake fluid.. thats the number one cause for that light and no other lights on your dash to be on... if that is your problem fill it up and address the brake leak... brake fluid doesnt evaporate and your car doesnt use it up. if its low its going some where best way to do this is park on a clean surface or slide cardboard under your car pump your brakes 10 times and then examine the cardboard or move the car and look for wet spots that wernt there before or you could also have a friend lay on the ground a few feet back and look for drips while your pressing the brake pedal careful not to get any brake fluid in the eye it burns like no other... if you find a leak have it fixed if you dont it might still be a internal leak into the power brake booster and you should have someone look at it NORMALLY when you have a ABS problem with you car BOTH THE ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT will be on not just one but the other awnsers could be correct too the brake indicator light does come on when the emergancy or parking brake is enabled try pulling the release and pull up on the parking brake pedal at the same time.. or if its a center parking brake push it all the way down with the button pushed

Break lights stay on when car if off

I had this same problem. I turned off my car and the brake lights stayed on. I looked under the dash and found that the brake pedal, when not pressed, barely touched the brake light switch, which controls whether the brake lights are on or off. Initially though I just wedge a thin piece of adhesive foam between the pedal and switch, which worked fine for several months until I found the time to properly fix it. My brake light switch was adjustable so i eventually adjusted the nuts on each side of the brake switch holding it to the pedal bracket so that the brake pedal pushed in the white brake light switch when released. Hope this helps!

Brake pedal has alot of back pressure and car moves in gear.Have to press real hard to stop. How to check abs pump if has one where or brake booster or master cylinder?Don't know how to trouble shoot or...

The air seeping is a dead giveaway. Your power brakes are now manual brakes, but stiffer. The diaphram in the brake booster has torn and the hissing noise is the engine vacuum escaping (you hear it louder when you depress the pedal right?). Replace the booster and you will be fine. The brake lights probably don't work because you can't push the pedal down far enought to release the switch. Please rate. Thanks.

Brake light stays on

the switch for your brake lights is located near your brake pedal,it is usually a spring loaded switch that comes out when the pedal is pushed & the pedal pushes it back in when it is released, this switch may have come loose & is active all the time, you need to make sure that it is pushed hard up against the brake pedal & tighten the adjusting screws to lock it in position, check that your stop lights come on when the brake pedal is pushed in....hope this helps....cheers

2005 Dodge Caravan . Brake lights stay on !

Try pulling back on the brake pedal if lights go off then either switch adjustment or the brake booster is allowing the pedal to drop down if it's running (vacuum) or brake pedal mechanism is binding.

94 Plymouth Voyager ABS light stays on

Had a similar problem a number of years back. Underneath the brake pedal arm is a small switch with a plunger. when you press the pedal down it moves the plunger in and engages the brake lights. when you let off it's supposed to pop back out (turning the lights back off). Possible it is getting stuck in the down position and could need to be replaced. very easy to install and only about an 8 dollar fix.
