Hi you possibly need a transmition oil change and filter. If that does not work you need a the transmition repaired which will be very expensive. Good Luck Jim...
You have lost the 1st, 2nd, etc. in DRIVE? If you put the car in SECOND does it move forward a little bit? Put the car in Manual 2nd, can you shift into DRIVE and feel the third gear? This happened to me. The 'forward clutch' needs replacing. The transmission clutch plates in that part are glazed over because the fluid is burned. See if your fluid is brown.
I take it that this transmission is a 5 speed manual transmission. Make sure that you have plenty of clutch fluid in the clutch master cylinder and that the pedal is properly adjusted. If so, then you may have internal problem with the syncro sleeves.
If it is a manual ****** it is most likely your clutch going out. The most common first sign is slippage with that. If it is an auto ******, you are most likely looking at your transmission starting to fail. It could be something else but those are my best guesses with my experience. Hope it helsp.
manual transmissions have slave cylinder that requires DOT 3 brake fluid, there is usually a half dollar sized reservoir near the brake master cylinder. if your fluid is low you will have trouble getting it in gear and in time burn up your clutch. also consider having your trans fluid flushed and adding an additive, it's not expensive on a manual trans. :)
have you checked the fluid in the clutch master cylinder? make sure there is fluid and the slave cylinder on the transmission is moving the clutch. if it is then the clutch may be worn out and not disengaging the clutch which means the clutch is still turning and you cant put it in gear. hope this helps
Have you checked the clutch fluid level? I am referring to the clutch master cylinder which is usually mounted on the firewall near the master brake cylinder. If fluid level is low, clutch won't work. Hope it's that simple. Let me know.
take it to dealer and get the scrappage on it against a new car. Most likely cause is low on fluid ---BUT --- anything from a worn pump to a worn front clutch
Change the fluid and the filter and see if that helps, if it continues to slip then the forward clutch pack is worn out and the trans will need to be torn down and repaired. :)
Sounds like the trans imput shaft bearing. They tend to wear and cause shifting problems. It also could be synchronizers. Marlin Crawler makes aftermarket trans bearings for these transmisions. www.marlincrawler.com I hope this helps. Also check tranny fluid and clutch. a worn or bad clutch will also cause this.
