I always had hit unlock few times on drives side to get the dam thing unloc and then i open with my key. i have 96 all the jeep sound like they do all the same nonsence. Tell me if that helps you

In the Owner's Manual on page 56 it discusses the Back Door. Review that for info. What button are you pushing - inside the car or the remote keyless fob? Does it UNLOCK w/the keyless fob?
is there no tailgate unlock feature on the remote key fob ? or maybe a tailgate unlock button on the dash or on driver's door controls ? sorry i don't know much about Terrains-i'll have to look into it,but there should be another way of accessing the 'boot'

Usually there are 3 ways, at least. Fob, real key and door switches.

the lever to the lock is there. move the lock by hand iniside, i bet it opens now.
on most cars there is a child lock feature, its covered in the operators guide the fact there. read that. first.

I suggest you try one of those instant download manuals. My
brother ( a mechanic) buys when he can't fix some technical issue with the manual at www.reliable-store.com . A lot of mechanics actually do this. Website is very good for this. Must try it !!
It will not unlock the door the first time you push the button. This only registers the key fob ID into the computer. When you press the button on the key fob, press it only once and wait for the hazzard lights to flash twice again. Then open the driver's door. The key fob will not become active until you open the driver's door.
If your hazzard lights do not flash after you press the button on the key fob, there is most likely a problem with the key fob. Either it is not the correct key fob for your vehicle, or the battery is not in correctly or the key fob is defective.
The only other advice I can give you is to have it programmed with a scan tool. This way, the scan tool can verify that the computer in your vehicle is receiving the signal from the key fob.
It can be done either way, but if the "no scanner" way does not work, the rest of the system should be checked for possible problems.
my v70 vovlo estate(2000) tailgate wont open.checked fuses ok.no sound from mechansim when key fob depressed as the others do.Cant get into the back panel or open door at all.can you help with a suggestion?
