My yj made a loud pop while going down the road and then wouldn't drive. Now it wont engage in 2wd or 4hi but drives just fine in 4low

part time 4wd does not allow running on pavement.
only , ICE or dirt that is the PART time words. meaning.
full time 4wd or AWD is a whole other matter and what your truck has I Can not guess.
is this your first ever 4wd experience?
when ICE covers pavement that is ICE , not pavement tires touch>

then shift out. if no dirt anywhere? sand or gravel or grass.?
then jack up one wheel then deselect 4Low. back do 2WD

in your glove box is an operators guide , did you read that yet
under how to drive in 4wd or awd.??????????

Have you had codes checked ? While connected to a good scanner that will check transfer case switch to show if switch is working, and it could be the switch on the side of the transmission.

Sounds like the actuator on the front axle is bad.

Did you check your ATF level? I have an ATF leak somewhere and when my ATF gets really low my auto trans will keep slipping out of gear until I dump another quart or two of ATF fluid into the trans.

what are you trying to say is that the front wheels wont engage?? if this is your problem? check the actuater on the passenger side axle there are 3 lines that go to it and that is what pulls it in and pushes it out of gear by air.

try seeing if the cable going to the front differental is pulling in to engage the front axle?

you can also check the 4 wheel drive vacuum switch on top of the transfer case...got mine for 10 bucks from parts store...fixed the problem

it is either the control switch or the actuator. look if light is flashing on push button switch. if so it is stuck. you can check actuator on front axle, to watch and see if it is moving.
