Neutral switch could be tested but that requires a voltmeter and body contorsion. Replacement is not too bad. About $17.

Rock it back and forth with pressure in either direction on gear selector. Manual or auto can have a safety switch after 1991. If sensor fails to detect park or neutral, no start.

SOURCE: i am getting a code p0171 and p0174 on my 1999

P0171 is a LEAN code for cylinder bank 1

P0174 is a LEAN code for cylinder bank 2

That means your car is getting a lot of air and not enough fuel which will make the engine Misfire and rough idle. Well i can say check your mass air flow for any dirt in it and the EGR for any leaks. And also the fuel pump and the fuel lines or any restricted fuel filter. Good luck bro

If the security system is at fault, the security light should be flashing or staying on.

Hi, I have a problem with a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 series 5.2 Liter. It will crank over but won't start every once in a while it will start and run for about 20 seconds, then it dies and won't start...

check all your vacuum lines. if there is a vacuum leak, the truck will crank, but not start. if you need a vacuum diagram, go to www.autozone.com create a profile it's free, add vehicle. put in the info of your dodge ram. then from the main screen, where it says select a category, select vehicle repair guide. on the next screen select emission controls. on the next screen where it says select a chapter, select vacuum diagrams. as you scroll down just click on the diagram for your engine. hope it helps. good luck.

change fuel filter. add can of SEAFOAM(parts house) to fuel. It sounds like the beginning of EGS(ethanol gas syndrome). corn liquor substance, water, and clogging. all caused by ethanol fuel.

Takes time to start up a 1999 Ford Pick Up Ranger

Check the MAP sensor and the fuel pressure at the shredder valve. Before you try to start the engine, cycle the ignition 3 times to the run position for 10 seconds apart and then try starting the car. You may be lossing the fuel pressure prime. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to hlep.
