P0443 FORD - EVAP Purge Control Circuit Possible causes Faulty Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Purge Solenoid Control Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Purge Solenoid Control harness is open or shorted Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Purge Solenoid Control circuit poor electrical connection What does this mean? When is the code detected? - An improper voltage signal is sent to ECM through the valve. Possible symptoms Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light) P0443 Ford Description The Evaporative Emission System (EVAP) canister purge volume control solenoid valve uses a ON/OFF duty to control the flow rate of fuel vapor from the EVAP canister. Hope this helps

SOURCE: 2001 Ford Escape error code P0402

Ok here is the solution when I had the exact same problem with my 2001 Ford Escape:
Replace:

Idler air control valve
EGR vaccum sylenoid
EGR valve

I did all of this work myself (and as a girl it was not hard at all), it cost me around $170.00 for all of the parts, had it done in less than 2 hrs., erased the codes and have not had a problem since then! I hope this helps you out, cuz it sure would have helped me out when I encountered the same problem.

Diesel engines 100% have EGR valve. It sometimes gets stuck if the car is driven only short distances.

SOURCE: p401 emission code ford escape 2001 6cyl

P0401 shows an Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient. Without a good scan-tool you will be playing the "Parts Changing Game". Insufficient flow can be the result of a vacuum leak, bad MAP sensor, an exhaust leak, faulty EBP sensor, carbon build-up, and so on. I wish I could say more but with all the electronics it is more complicated then earlier cars.

Does anybody have a color coded vacuum / EGR hose diagram for a 2001 mazda tribute 3.0 LX

Matthew, Vacuum hose diagram should be under hood on a decal/label, on hood it self or on rad cradle usually. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Just replaced EGR hose & valve copver gaskets on 2002 Ford Escape 4WD. Did test drive, runs really rough & almost stops & cuts off. Any ideas?

OK, if you replaced the EGR hose, did you go all the way to change the EGR Valve? A stuck open EGR Valve can cause a rough idle and almost make it cut off.
Also, a vacuum leak on the EGR valve can cause a rough idle.

prev.gif next.gif Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve Removal & Installation 2.0L Zetec Engine NOTE: When the EGR tube is disconnected from the EGR valve, it must be discarded and a new EGR tube must be installed. The aluminum threads on the EGR valve must be inspected, and a new EGR valve installed if the threads are damaged.
To Remove:
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove and discard the exhaust manifold-to-EGR tube. Use the following as a guide:
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle
  4. Remove the splash shield
  5. Disconnect the EGR tube fitting
  6. Lower the vehicle
  7. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe
  8. Disconnect the EGR tube from the EGR valve.
  9. Detach the vacuum line and remove the two retainer bolts.
NOTE: The EGR valve sealing surfaces are soft metals and easily damaged.
To Install:
  1. Installation is a reverse of the removal process. Carefully clean all sealing surfaces and install a new EGR valve gasket.
  2. Install a new EGR valve tube.
