This is a very common problem on GM vehicles. The security system is known to fail. Basically when you insert your key, the system checks for certain OHMS resistance. If the system cannot get the correct signal from the key, it assumes the key is incorrect and goes into SECURITY lockout mode. (prevents hotwiring) This has been happening with GM;s for a very long time. There are ways to bypass this now. Read through this page for info, solutions as well.

SOURCE: 2001 Aurora security light flashes. Key will not

I'm not sure yet if I've fixed it. But, I did find what seems to be a good solution. Others have installed a Passlock bypass module - as though they wanted a remotre start and report that this fixed it.

If your experts disagree or have a better fix, I'll pay for that info.

Thanks,

SOURCE: How do you stop the security light from blanking

For the radio Im pretty sure you just need to call your dealer or go see them, they will take your VIN and give you a code to keep your after market stereo from kicking the theft lock.

The security light unfortunatly is a very common, and as it is just annoying right now, potentially big problem. The model Pass Key system in th 01 Olds Aurora tends to be defective in most of these cars. If the Security light, or DIC is flashing Theft fault system, you need to see your dealer. Chances are your secureity system is about to have some "Lock out" Malfunctions. These are no fun. Its when the Pass Key system detects a suspicious or uncorrect key trying to start car or someone is trying to enter car abnormally. Its actaully a very good feature when opperating properly. It usally lock the system for 3-10 minutes and the system resets and with the correct key you can start the car. The problem is that the little chips in the keys go bad causing the "lock out" to happen even when usuing the correct key. Anouther, less used key can work better, and if you start expieriencing lock outs, waiting to the system to reset usally works, but eventually those mthods will fail to and you will have to have it repaired. This system can also cause the "lock out" to occur while driving down the road.

Id get it checked and fixed before the neusance light become a real problem.

You can also consider a Bypass system that with completly go around the smart key system. They are inexpensive and effective and preventing issues with the Pass Lock. However you will not have the security settings from the Immobalizer (lock out) so it would be a easier target for joy riders. You will still have the theft deterant ability, that alarms if someone tried gaining entry to the car with out keys or proper entry methods.

Bypass systems are not full proof either and do wear out over time. I think they have far less issues than the securtity feature in the car and if the bypass fails and Lock Out occurs, simply get a new Bypass. Hope I helped a bit take care :-)

I have a 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora I turn the key and it makes no noise and all the lights come on could it be the key or could it have something to do with the security light is blinking

The security light blinking is the problem, you must get control module scanned for fault codes to diagnose the issue or you can bypass the system if you understand basic electrical systems . Just google bypass passkey system.

Car will not start

The key under the dash may be bypassing the security system. And that trick may not be working anymore.
You would need to check the starter to see if you have power from the key switch in the start position. The neutral safety switch may have failed, or the security system may be preventing the engine from cranking.

2001 oldsmobile Aurora security light stays on will not program key.

If the security light is on constant, this means that the actual computer of the antitheft system has failed. If it were flashing, this would indicate that the key or ignition was failing. The problem may not be the programming of the key, but more the computer that receives the signal.

I was in the gym slammed the weight on my keys to an oldsmobile aurora 2001 i think i broke the chip in the key can i still reset my security light cause my car wont start now it keep saying security...

First off, sorry that happened. That key can run anywhere from 75 to 150 bucks. There are ways to bypass this system so that you can use any key. Its probably good to just bypass it anyway so that it doesnt end up failing on you down the road. These system are expensive and out dated. Here is a link to understand how the system works and ways to bypass this yourself.

My oldsmobile aura wont turn over when u turn it it goes to the lights and then when you try to turn the car on it wont turn its lke its stuck

This could be several things. A common issue for this car is a faulty Pass Key system. It can ingage the Immobilizer feature in your Security device and it locks the relay from the ignition to engage the fuel pump and starter. Can you hear a low elecrtic winding hum when you turn it? I would say take it to a dealer or a good machanic and have a diagnostic ran.
If you want to see if its your Security lock out before a garage try relearning the key to the system
Turn key to ON leave on for at least 10 minuites. If security light flashes or stays on steady it should be relearning the radio sequence needed to start. After 10 minuites ( no less) turn key to off for about 30 seconds and turn to ON position again then again off for 30 seconds. Do this 1 more time and from OFF position attempt to start the engine.
If this doesnt work It could be the "smart chip" in your key or maybe the key you are trying is dirty or damaged. Try a different key that you dont use as often and this may work. Dont use valet key when attempting to get out of Lock out.
If neither of these work then it could be a number of things ranging from Needing a new key and ignition. Or it may be your something entirely outside the Pass Key system.
Again get it to a mechanic for a diagnostic if unsure

If it is your Security and you would be interesting in doing away with problem all together. You can Bypass the security relay system with a Bypass on. They are not full proof and cant just as easy have defects and wear out. They are alot easier to replace and run any where from 200-600 dollars from what Ive seen.I did this with my Aurora about 2 years ago and just very recently had an issue with my Bypass failing.

I hope this want over load and really hope it helps!!!
