I don't have a code Thanks
Sounds like the fuel pump is not getting fuel to the injectors - check the fuel filter and if that is not plugged up, then check the fuel manifold pressure - if it's about 10psi or more (when the ignition switch is on) then it's probably not the fuel system. it the ignition system okay (sparks to the plugs?) you could have a burned out coil or spark plug wires - or spark plugs - but since it was running, I'd check the fuel system first

look at the plug wires they are known to bust when old near the boot
SOURCE: window will not roll up on 1990 toyota 4 runner
no power or no ground ??
try running a hot line to the motor
run a pair of wires from the batterie 1 pos 1 neg speaker wire will do
unplug the window motor and run it direct pos on 1 wire neg on the other flip the wires to change motor direction
if motor works then it's eithor a bad ground or a bad wire or a bad reley

If you cannot find a leak then it is probably running too rich if you are also having a rough start and or rough idle. You can find out if it has been running too rich by checking any one of your spark plugs...it will be coated with a lustrous black residue and/or smell like gas. At that point you will have to change them.
You can also try replacing your PCV, a clogged PCV can also allow that type of smell to escape past it's grommet into the engine bay instead of recirculating it back into the system.
