Coolant temp sensor located on a 2004 dodge ram 1500 4.7

My engine coolant temp guage is showing hot when the temperature is over 100 degrees and the AC is running, but the engine does not seem to be running hot. I have replaced the thermostat and coolant. The inside of the radiator looks clean. No leaks anywhere. No radiator fluid loss. The engine has just been tuned up. The clutch fan has been checked and is good. The radiator cap has been replaced. Thinking the temp sensor might be defective but do not know where its located on the Dodge Ram 1500, 4.7 liter engine.

Coolant temperature sensor location on 97 ford expedition

I believe they are located in the intake manifold somewhere. Make sure the one that tells the computer the coolant temp is ACTUALLY giving out the correct temperature. I had a bad one one time in a 1993 Ford F-150, 5.8L....... no check engine light came on but hard to start. The bad sensor was telling the computer it was 32 degrees F when it was almost 80 degrees outside.!!
Garbage in=Garbage out.

Here is a video link from Youtube. There are 2 sensors, 1 for the guage and the other tells the on-board computer how hot/cold the coolant is. The one for the guage has 1-wire and the other one has 2 wires.
Hope this helps, ask more if you need to. What kind of problem are you having? No heat inside? Guage needle not getting into the normal area?

2005 dodge ram 5,7 hard starting when its hot 58000 miles on it

If you can find a buddy who owns a scan tool (a "code reader" won't give enough information) look at the data stream and note the coolant temperature with the engine stone cold. It should be close to the ambient temperature. Next, drive the vehicle until it's up to operating temperature and, again, take note of the coolant temperature. It should be somewhere around 210 degrees F. If it's not, the coolant temperature sensor is probably bad. If you can't get access to a scan tool, just replace the coolant temperature sensor. They're pretty cheap. You'll probably find it somewhere around the thermostat housing.

Correct installation of thermostat for 2004 dodge 1500, 4.7 engine, runs abnormally hot, just a tad over middle temperature range, after being run top hose very hot to touch, bottom hose cool, thanks in...

you know when its wrong the guage goes to the top, then drops.the temp guage is notoriously wrong on most cars,so if your not losing power, water, leave it.(the top hose is hot, about boiling point, the botom should be just warm)thats what the radiator does......

I have dodge ram 1500 2004 4.7 4x4.. the enginee light came on...

the codew is to detect a bad thermostat, it can also be set by a bad engine coolant temperature sensor, if you have not replaced these then I would try the ECT first.

2004 Dodge 1500 pk up

Your truck does not have to be low on water to be running hot...you need to verify the tempature of the cooling system, and the head temp...then you will be albe to tell if it is actually overheating , or just an indication problem. Be very careful as hot engine coolant can scald you badly (know from experience)
