SOURCE: Ford Focus Engine Light
Start by getting either a mechanic or someone with an OBDII scanner to read the code so you know where to start. Lots of time a loose gas cap will cause a "Evap system small leak" code which illuminates the check engine light for a while. Other than that I can't help you much without knowing what code comes up.
SOURCE: High fuel consumption
Check the following things: air filter, wheel alignment, and timing belt, all of them if not serviced on time can affect your fuel consumption. I do not think its the heat because I drive my car in Phoenix AZ with temperatures comparable to Dubai and I still get 500+ km/tank.
Good Luck,

If its just the speedo failing and the rev counter works ok, its likely to be the speed sensor which is on the gearbox. This will have to be removed as soon as possible to avoid engine damage! Expect to pay about £30-40 not £128 like some have paid from a Ford dealer.
The speed sensor as well as talking to the speedo to say how fast youre doing also talks to the fuel pump and adjusts the amount of fuel to send to the engine according to the speed your doing. So, if it thinks youre doing 0mph, it will supply a minimum amount of fuel and is likely to stall when slowing down. You might notice a lack of power whilst the speedo is failing as its starving the engine of fuel, causing it to run a lean mixture, which also burns hotter and could overheat and damage the engine.
SOURCE: ford focus 04, handbrake light stays on when driving but faded
make sure u are not low on brake fluid, this will also illuminate the red brake light.
SOURCE: ford focus engine cuts out when driving. coilm
Hi, You need to plug this into a code reader and see what codes are stored the most common reason for the engine cutting out is internal fuel pump failure will also cause poor starting
