Yes it could. It could be about 50 other things as well. More testing will be required. Basic tests that will tell you the missing components of startup. Does it have gas in the tank, does it have spark reaching the spark plugs, are there any warning lamps for security or alarms (especially add on aftermarket ones) flashing or staying on while trying to start? Does it have a working crank sensor signal? is the timing belt still on and in time? If you have access to a basic OBD2 scantool, that will at least tell you if the Computer sees cranking rpm. Tests for spark and fuel involve some technical skill and some risk if you dont have proper experience. Without additional information, your question is very difficult to answer.

SOURCE: Fuel Pump needs replacing with a full tank of gas on my '97 Chrysler Concorde

I doubt their is an access to the fuel pump threw floor board MABY in trunk the proper procedure would be this 1. Get the part 2. Disconnect neg. batt termanal 3. Drain the tank (fuel pumps like to quit on a full tank for some reason). 4. disconnect filler neck, fuel lines and wire harness (you may have to lower tank a little to get the lines and harness) 5. remove support straps 6. Lower tank 7. clean off top of tank where the pump comes out. 8. using a brass punch or something non sparking remove the lock holding pump assembly in tank. 9. carefully!! remove pump. 10. install new strainer on new pump and install. you might buy a new filter as well as most new pumps require this for warrenty on the ground with hand tools this can be done in aprox 3-4 hours!!

SOURCE: car wont start. turns over but wont catch.

The fuel pumpmay have failed. Try having someone turn the key to the ON position while you listen under the car near the fuel tank for the fuel pumo to hum. If it does not, or it sounds like it is grinding, then it may have failed. A pressure test with a gauge would be need to check for proper pressure.

A FORD EQUIPED WITH DUAL TANKS THIS YEAR MODEL HAS CHECK VALVES IN THE FUEL PUMPS .THE FUEL RUNS FROM THE REAR TANK WHEN IT IS POWERED ON TO A TEE AND INTO THE SAME LINE AS THE FRONT PUMP . THE PROBLEM IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FRONT FUEL PUMP THERE IS A CHECK VALVE ON THE FOOT AND IT IS NOT WORKING.WHILE THE TRUCK IS RUNNING WITH THE REAR FUEL PUMP ON IT IS PUMPING FUEL INTO THE FRONT TANK . IT WILL RUN OUT OF THE NECK WHEN IT IS FULL.THE FIX IS SIMPLE REPLACE THE FRONT FUEL PUMP. THEY DONT MAKE A CHECK VALVE REPLACEMENT I CHECKED I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS YOU.

99 C230 slowly dies on road

Some possible solutions (from general experience (i'm 55 yrs old)): 1. Plugged up fuel filter; Replace it. Part costs less than $10.00.If the filter is just in front of the tank, it should take a screwdriver and 15 minutes or less to swap. 2. Water in the fuel tank; Add a bottle of "Heat" to the tank. Cost ~ $3.50 or less. This next may require some trouble shooting or head scratching first. DO #1 & #2 First. (Won't hurt & Doesn't cost much) 3a. Partly clogged fuel line. 3b. Cracked fuel line. (Sucks air into the fuel line) Depends where the fuel pump is.(Also look for fuel leaks, especially around hoses in the fuel line.) 3c. Clogged carb.Filter (if it exists). Verify fuel delivered to Carb by disconnect @ Carb. attach small hose to catch container then turn on (NOT Start) ignition.Should hav a steady flow of fuel for at least several seconds. If so, Replace carb. filter. 4. Weak/ failing fuel pump. Major pain but backyard mech can do it with helpmay take half a day.May need to have a few empty gas cans available to save the existing fuel.. Replacement In-Tank pump assembly should be less than $50.00.

Engine turns over but wont start. 1997 gmc jimmy

Fuel Pump or starter. Since you say it's turning over but won't start I'd say it's your fuel pump. You'll probably have to drop your gas tank to fix this problem as your fuel pump is in the tank. You might be able to just loosen the straps and lower your tank a little to access it without removing the whole tank. Check around to local junk yards for this part and you'll probably find it for half the price as new. Make sure you can get your money back if the used pump doesn't work before you pay for it though. Don't forget to run fuel system cleaner (2 bottles to a full tank) once a month.

Motor turns over won't start. Cleaned terminals, put in new battery, still won't start. Removed gas cap to vent air on hot day, still won't start. Lights all come on, all electrics appear to...

Your problem may be one of the following:
First check or just replace the fuel filter. Usually located under the car in front of the rear axle, drivers side.
Next, the fuel pump may be worn out. Usually they get loud or stop working (running).
Next, check the fuel pressure regulator. Usually located on the front fuel rail, drivers side.
Is the vacuum line attached? Not leaking or rotted?
Also, do you smell a strong fuel odor when it won't start? May be one or more stuck-open injectors, or the coil pack is bad.
Checking these in the order listed will more than likely fix your problem.
The clicking noise indicates the battery can no longer run the starter, which also means the fuel pump won't run either.

It could be a fuel issue. How old is the fuel filter? Can you hear the pump run for a few seconds when you turn the key on? Try turning the key to ON without trying to start engine three times waiting for the pump to stop running each time. Then try to start the engine. If it starts, Its a form of Vapor lock caused by the extreme heat we have had lately, and a weak fuel pump.

If none of this works, try a new fuel filter first. From there have someone check the fuel pressure regulator and then the pump. If you are in need of a new pump, take my word for it and spend the money to get one from a Dealer, and not from your favorite parts store. Most parts store parts are made in China and they are JUNK.

Ran out of gas then filled up now car wont start. I have a 97 pontiac sunfire

The electric fuel pump located in the gas tank can and do burn out, from running out of gas. If it won't run, the fuel pressure will need to be checked to make certain it is the fuel pump. A fuel filter can get plugged and the motor will quit running, but you are sure that you ran out of gas?

Several months could be a tank of bad gas. When turning the ignition to on position the pump runs for 3 to 5 seconds to pressurize the system, next find the valve on fuel rail and press it, Shield with a rag while doing this. You should get fuel. Check the way it smells, bad gas has an awful smell that can make you hurl! Attach a fuel pressure tester, it should be around 50lbs. If it's bad empty the tank by pressing the needle and relieving the pressure. Next disconnect fuel line before the filter get a container to catch the gas. IN the engine conpartment disconnect the fuel pump relay and put a jumper wire to run the pump until tank is drained. Instal new filter and pump if needed and add a can of "Seafoam" to the tank with fresh gas. Run pump until there's fuel at the fuel rail then put relay back in. now we should have ignition and constant running. Hope this helped.

Honda Civic -2001. Gas fill more than tank capacity?

the sender unit in the tank ,i think it has petrol in the float so its not reading correct.with the filler neck and associated pipes then it no doubt holds nearer 15 gals or about 80 litres .I couldnt afford to buy this much petrol in one go as its just over 1 euro 20cents a litre here so that would cost me 90+ euros or if the exchange rate is right this morning thats a dollar a litre

I ran out of gas in a 1997 Chevy Blazer, put gas in, but still won't start.

The fuel filter may be to dirty to let the gas flow through and will need to be replaced, or most common when you run out of gas is the fuel pump will burn it self out. The fuel in the tank will keep the fuel pump cooled and will keep it from burning out, if you ran it out of gas. The pump may have burn out and will need to be replaced. Check the fuse first and hope the fuse blown due to the extra amp drown from the pump running without fuel. If the fuse is good, then check to see if you can hear the fuel pump start up when you turn the ignition key to the run position. Note the fuel pump will only energize the fuel line for 5 seconds, so you need to listen for the pump to turn on right away. The other thing too, is you can check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve, there should be 62 to 65 PSI when energizing the fuel line and will drop around 5 PSI when the engine is running. Make sure you do not try to start the engine by pouring gas down the throttle body, it been know for the gas to catch fire in the intake manifold and burn up the fuel injector system which is very costly. Start with the simple and check the fuses and fuel pump, then replace the fuel filter. At worst, your going to have to replace the fuel pump by dropping the gas tank and don't forget to replace the wire harness from the fuel pump to the frame. Good luck and hope this helps, keep me posted. Be glad to know you got your Blazer running again soon.
