A leaking fuel injector is a dirty fuel injector. Remove it and clean it by either spraying or soaking the injector in carb and choke cleaner. After cleaner runs clear dry completely with compressed air. Always replace the o-rings, soak them in clean engine oil for easy install and a tight seal. If you should need further assistance, drop me a line.
your fuel pump could be getting weak, check the fuel pressure. The throttle body or fuel injectors could need to be cleaned, try using injector cleaner in the fuel tank there it a cleaner you can spray into the throttle body a little at a time, use i higher or slightly raised idle. Make sure the air cleaner and air box are clean, animals love to build a nest in air boxes. also make sure the fuel injector wires have not been chewed on, look at all the wires closely.
Check your plugs. Using cleaners can clear the clogged injectors but the junk they burn off sometimes ends up on the plugs and can foul them out. You may also have water in the gas tank. Using Dry gas additive for a few tanks will fix that problem. If the plugs are good and you have good gas in the tank (sometimes running the tank low will dredge up garbage and clog your fuel filter) then changing the fuel filter would be the next step.
try to clean the throttle body with a carb and choke cleaner using a tooth brush to help you out. it sounds like your not getting enough air. also get a injector cleaning. or run a few (2)bottles of fuel injector cleaner in a full tank of fuel.
If it is a 1980 Caddy it either has a carburetor or throttle-body fuel injection( V864, if it's fuel injected you might need a new fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator ) and you can remove the aircleaner lid and pour a little gas down the carb (hold the choke plate open with a screw driver placed between choke plate and carb air horn) or throttle-body. It might take a few tries before the fuel pump fills the float bowl up on the carb for it to keep running. If the cars has really old stale gas in the tank you might need to drain it and refill with fresh gas. Change the fuel filter and add a can of fuel injector-carb cleaner to the gas tank.
Make sure the air filter is clean, make sure the oxygen sensor is ok but would have to suspect its carboned up due to vehicle age ,if not working properly it tells the engine to run richer than normal. Also make sure the plugs and spark plug leads are in good condition. It wouldnt hurt to put a bottle of injector cleaner in the fuel tank next service as dirty injectors will also add to fuel use.A few small things to do or check but worth it by the sound it.
