SOURCE: Valve cover gasket

valve cover gaskets are in expensive, like 20 bucks, a books that can tell you how to do it would be 25-50 and you will be able to use the book for other things.. there are usually a few long bolts going straight through your valve cover, jus take them off remove the old gasket and put new one in put them back in.. however tightening the valve cover bolts will be the only tricky part.. you may need a torque wrench and have to refer to the book to know exatly how tight they should be.. but as a rule of thumb 80-90 ft-lb of tork is usually used.. be careful when doing this cuz if you put the wrong torque on it will bend your valve covers or posibbly not seal correctly

Having problems with my 1998 Pontiac firebird. When I sit with the air on my car sometimes start to shake or even smoke. I don't know if it's the exhausts or something dealing with it breathing. Whatever...

A bunch of things can cause this.
It could be the engine idle speed is too low, can be caused by a faulty Idle Air Control valve. Watch the rev counter when it does it and see if it's very low. See if it rises when you turn off the air con. The air con puts a load on the engine which should be adjusted for by the IAC valve (automatically opens the throttle very slightly to keep the engine speed from getting too low).
Also possible to be fuel pressure, Mass Air Flow sensor, ignition coil, spark plugs or even a blocked air filter.
Is the check engine light on?
Try looking at Pontiac firebird forums. Google search firebird idle faults. Good luck.

85 pontiac firebird 5L engine automatic trans trans willnot shift until it is totally warmed then shifts normal

Sounds like you might have a stuck governor valve. It is located on the drivers side near the rear, under a round steel cover about 3 inches in diameter.

1995 pontiac firebird formula v8 idle

The idle speed is not adjustable, it is computer (PCM) controlled, you can turn the screw for the hard stop, but the computer will just over ride that adjustment for the most part, what I think you may need to do is clean the throttle valve and the idle speed control air bypass valve, use carb spray, spray it in the intake with the engine running use the at least 1/2 the can, the engine will try to stall, keep it running, after you are done disconnect the battery for 10 minutes, reconnect and drive a few days so the computer (PCM) can relearn your driving habits and set the idle correctly based on your driving.
