You should at least be able to fish the keys out of the trunk even if you can't reach the latch. Most all modern cars have an easy to access latch release to prevent anyone getting locked into the trunk.
the causes for the small leak are listed as
hose connections --intake leak--- EVAP canister--- EVAP canister purge valve
check hoses for small cracks ( old hoses) or replace the purge valve
With my galant it just happened out of nowhere . I opened the trunk with the latch and when i was finished in the trunk ... my trunk will no longer latch. I thought maybe because it is getting colder but never had this problem b4. I am unemployed right now I need some DIY or very cheap Im talking 40 or less.. to fix it . this is dangerous especially because i am a mother of three. Call dealer service rep explain noise and I'll bet he suggests your heater control valve motor has failed. I just replaced mine 3 months ago. Same sympthoms. I could only get motor from dealer. and Had someone in my area who specializes in auto a/c work install it. It came out to be about $300. But you have to have heat!
If you apply enough force to the bolt using aq big wrench, you can snap the bolt.(not super bad and can easily be replaced) Otherwise, spray it with a good solvent several times for a day or two and see if it helps.
