What could be causing spark misfire on my 2000 Tundra 4.7 v8?

My generic code reader says "random engine misfire" on cyl. 2,6, and 7. I replaced those three coil packs, and still the engine runs rough, especially at highway speed. I checked all plugs, and they are clean,excellent, and not loose. The idle rpm dropped to a steady 500 rpm. Any suggestions would be appreciated!!...Thanks, Clarence Watson

You need to clear the codes from the ECM, and re-run diagnostic code. If you still have codes
Check your grounds. If you still have power issues, re-check your wiring or firing order. If you have spark only on 2-4-6, where is your 1 - 3 - 5. If I remember correctly those vehicles have double ignition modules. One for the right bank and one for the left bank. But not sure. When was the last time you change your spark plug wires? Your PCV? Fuel Filter? Air Filter?. As for your cam shaft sensor, run a coninuity test on the harness and ensure is working correcty. Why did you change the ECM, those things hardly go bad, unless you disconnected it while you had power going to it. Probably nothing wrong with the old one.
Ensure you don't have vacuum leaks (PCV Valve, EGR Valve) Check your fuel pressure if you can. Suggest you change fuel filter. Could be partially clogged and not allowing the proper atomization of fuel. (Also did you gap your plugs correctly or just threw them on as is?)

I have exactly the same problem and codes you listed on my 2000 Camry 4 cyl. I replaced the plugs which had no effect. My friend mechanic said the problem is deffinitely the wires and I could also need to replace the coil pack.

Hi! Pretty much a PCM (powertrain control module) problem. The PCM has connectivity on all electrical current that runs inside the car including the engine, transmission, accessories, etc. If the PCM is faulty something will surely fail, one good example is the bad reading on the scanner. Please try to swap PCM and see how it goes. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

SOURCE: 2002 saturn vue cylinder 1,3,5 misfiring when swapped coil pack it went away now cyl 2,6 misfiring.

having PO 304 = Misfire cylinder 4,PO 306 = Misfire cylinder 6, as I read above you have done the most. The thing that you have missed is to check whether the Catalytic Converter is faulty or not. To get an idea check whether you have a smell like rotten eggs at the end of the exhaust,you start having problems with cat and needs replacement. My advice before you go for a cat replacement is good to visit an MOT center and check your emissions and then you decide,

Testimonial: "I have been having this problem for a few months now and I have tried everything except install a new Cat. I had a feeling but wasn't sure until this guy mentioned it. He really knows his stuff. He pin pointed everything to a "T". You're a really good mechanic, my friend. Keep up the good work. Thank you so much. Your knowledge is highly recommended."

Causes of p0300, p0302, p0304, p0306 in 2000 toyota avalon

P0300 = Random/multiple cylinder(s) - misfire detected.
P0302 = Cylinder 2 - misfire detected.
P0304 = Cylinder 4 - misfire detected.
P0306 = Cylinder 6 - misfire detected.

A misfire can be caused by a few things. The most common causes are usually spark supply or fuel supply. Get BOTH of these checked.
All the misfires are on the same side of the engine so I would suspect a fuel rail or an injector issue on that side of the engine.

2002 elantra cyl 2 random misfire

Hi there:A P0300 diagnostic code indicates a random or multiple misfire. If the last digit is a number other than zero, it corresponds to the cylinder number that is misfiring. A P0302 code, for example, would tell you cylinder number two is misfiring. Unfortunately, a P0300 doesn't tell you specifically which cylinder(s) is/are mis-firing, nor why.

For example, a P0302 code means that the the car's computer has detected that one of the engine's cylinders is not firing properly. In this case it's cylinder #2; same condition in P0301 - cyl #1, P0303 - cyl #3 and P0304 - cyl #4.

A code P0300 (or 301, 302, 303 or 304) may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
Faulty spark plugs or wires
Faulty coil (pack)
Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
Faulty fuel injector(s)
Burned exhaust valve
Faulty catalytic converter(s)
Stuck/blocked EGR valve / passages
Faulty camshaft position sensor
Defective computer

About your possible solutions, if there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.

If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.

Random misfires that jump around from one cylinder to another (read: P030x codes) also will set a P0300 code. The underlying cause is often a lean fuel condition, which may be due to a vacuum leak in the intake manifold or unmetered air getting past the airflow sensor, or an EGR valve that is stuck open.

Hope this helps.
