If this is a OBD2 scanner code you'll need to recheck it as it should be a letter and four numbers. Without the letter you can't translate where the fault is.

SOURCE: 2001 Volkswagen Jetta Check Engine Code PO442

This is an Evaporative Emissions System code - indicates the computer has checked the system and concludes there is a leak in the system (small leak).. could simply be a loose fuel cap.

SOURCE: my epc light went on in my 2002 volkswagen jetta

Take it to the dealer, the EPC warning light - and even more the failsafe run which doesn't allow you drive faster than 20mph) is an indication of serious motor troubles. They can read the ECU faultcodes, which should be a good startingpoint for troubleshooting the cause ...

You could do some basic troubleshooting like checking the air filter, the oil level, the spark plugs, etc. You didn't fill it up with bad gas, did you ? And does the engine make strange noises/vibration when running idle ? In case you fixed some obvious cause, you can dis- and reconnect the battery to erase the engine's faultcode. If it's not fixed, the EPC (and failsafe run) will simply come on again.

My advice would be not to drive it untill it's fixed to prevent more potential damage.

SOURCE: I have a 2002 Volkswagen

This is common, the car is misfiring in that cylinder, this is caused by a bad sparkplug or a coil and last a control module will also cause this, a good test is to first swap the coil with another cylinder and run the car a few miles then have it scanned to see if the misfire moves to another cylinder that you switch coils with, if this happens then you will know its the coil, but if it doesnt move then it may be a sparkplug or the module, heres a diagram to show you where # 2 cylinder is, hope this helps, good luck let me know how it goes.johnjohn2_5.jpg

My 2002 Volkswagen jetta lights on for traction control and ERP light. Car has no power.

Hi there?
The traction system is linked to the engine managment, if there a fault in the traction system it can reduce the engine power output. You need to scan the traction control system to see what fault code comes up.
