Have your battery tested. When the battery has a problem the dodges will act this way.

SOURCE: Location of O2 Sensors on 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 ?

Follow your exhaust manifold down from engine to exhaust pipes etc, you should see them sticking out, 3"-4" approx.length, with wires coming from them. Some are right on manifold, some further down on exhaust pipes.

SOURCE: '05 PT Cruiser O2 sensor problems.

I had a similar problem with my car. It turned out the O2 sensors were fine and the issue was a leak in the throttle body causing the engine to run lean. If you have an ODB2 scanner you can look at fuel trims, etc and will be able to tell.

okay, the o2 code can cause problems, theres a problem with one of the o2 sensors, theres 2 or 4 sensors, the repair was not done right or theres another bad o2 sensor, next thing i would check is the idle air control motor, this sounds like it sticks at time or just stops working, start with these things first,

Does not Idol, when come to stop light it goes out

Remove AIS motor (automatic idle speed) at front area of throttle body & clean it well & port it comes out of with throttle body spray cleaner, then re-install it. If it cures it for a while, then starts to do it again, replace it.

Will not stay running at idle (stalls)

There should be an AIS automatic idle speed motor mounted on the side of your throttle body across from or near your throttle linkage, or in that area. Usually held on with 2 torx screws. That regulates your idle up & down as needed depending on load situations on the engine, so that it doesn't stall out. Quite often they get gummed up or become defective and cause stalling. Before spending money on parts etc, (by the way, I'm told autozone will scan it free of charge for codes) I would get a spray can of throttle body cleaner, remove the AIS motor & clean the plunger & tip real good, and also spray some cleaner into the port that you removed it from, rub a little vaseline on the "O" ring at the seal of AIS motor before you re-install, and put it back in, tighten up the screws & give it a try. If it cures it great, but if it acts same shortly after running good for a while, buy new & replace. A lot of the time, this thing does not show a fault code in the computer, so it gets overlooked. 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 cold cranks but will not stay running

Have him remove & clean th IAC/AIS motor on the throttle body, and the port it came out of , as well as clean inside of throttle body if he hasn't done so already. Check and clean connections before re-assembling. Shouldn't take any longer than 1/2 hr or so.
