My heater has a tapping when you turn on the ignition switch from lower passenger side. it doesns change with the fan speed but stops for a moment when the fresh/recirculation button is pushed

Try to replace the relay for the recirulation/fresh blower. I have a 1991 Chev PU and the relays are behind and below the glovebox compartment.

2005 chev 1500, heater fan stays running with key off

Sounds like a relay is staying latched or you have a short to power for the blower motor.

I have a 98 chev diesel 1/2 ton, and my heater fan was only working on high, I replaced the blower motor resistor and now it works on all speeds but the resistor starts to smoke on the two slower speeds...

The blower motor is probably drawing too much current. Try removing the motor and spinning the cage by hand, if it has a lot of drag i would replace it.

Heater Switch

by R/R, do you mean Reset or Replace? and by heater blower switch, do you mean that the lo to hi fan speed switch is not turning the fan on?

If so, I had the same problem in mine. Instead, open the hood, and in the back of the engine compartment, on the passenger side, you will see two or three relays, they are little grey blocks about 1x1x2 inches. On mine, the middle one was burned out when I unplugged it. They cost about 12 bucks at the local auto store.
