Hello Teresa Edgar,
You DO NOT want To even ATTEMPT that...
(MINIMALLY "CV" or "U-Joint" ... FIX )...!!
Rockauto catalog depicts a "CV" half-shaft
(incredibly CHEAP... Please see the BOTTOM)
Without even looking up your parts... I am going to
suggest: you have been listening to some VERY
serious ... clicking... then clunking... then
banging.
At the Wheel end of your (axles) "half shafts"...
YOU had "flex" joints...
To come APART it has to have COMPLETELY
failed... (totally broken (ball bearings long missing)).
Periodic attention...
GREASE, CLEANING, DUST BOOTS... (etc.)
could have extended their LIFE EXPECANCY well
beyond that of we MERE mortals...
That is water over the DAM (long ago passed)...
See here... ((in my opinion) Very inexpensive repair parts)
1994 FORD ESCORT 1 8L L4 CV Half Shaft Assembly RockAuto
Depends on what you are trying to do and the model you are doing it to.
I have worked on a few ******* around that vintage but I don't remember any particular problems removing the front subframe. All ******* of each age share the same basic construction and layout but details differ depending on model, making a repair manual desirable though not necessary. I found most tasks fairly intuitive.
I suggest you take another look, using a strong light and a mirror if necessary.
SOURCE: cv axle removal from transmission
take a pry bar to the side of the tranny and pry the cv out, there is a clip on the shaft of the axle on the inside of the tranny
SOURCE: I'm preparing to remove front right axle shaft (Cv half shaft)
It is held in by a spring ring. You need a good strong pry bar and you position it between the hub of the axel and the case of the trans and **** hard pulling it out. It sometimes is seated well, but keep trying. It will fight you sometimes.
Hope this helps.
Testimonial: "Thanks a bunch. I wanted to make sure I wasn't mistakenly trying to pry a snap ring off. Took long enough to get the axle nut off easy from here."
SOURCE: I'm trying to remove a CV axle on a 94 Escort, but
I am assuming you have disconnected the lower portion of the front suspension from the frame and separated the axle from the bearing assembly (where it goes through your front brake rotor).. if so.. using a small pry bar, insert it between the back of the axle were it enters the transmission, a little bit of pressure should allow the axle to come out.. remember to replace the oil seal before you insert the new axle
SOURCE: clunking noise when turning steering wheel going slow around corner
A lot of these Chrysler Town and Country vans had issues with the front stabilizer bar end links, usually you wont feel them move if you try to move them by hand, but they will make an awful noise clunk noise when turning or going over bumps slowly, i would suggest replacing the end links and that should take car of your clunking issue. Also the front lower control arm bushings separate as well and can cause this noise as well.... but i would replace the end links as a first step and go from there.... Hope this helps..
