1998 Windstar Transmission doesn't shift into gear

I have a 1998 Ford Windstar. Worked fine, then Wife (thankful where it happened) pulled into the driveway from driving, and the car dropped out of gear. She coasted to the parking spot, but now no matter where you shift it - Nothing. Checked that the shifter is actually moving the linkage.
I have plenty of fluid - no visible leaks.

Common problem for ford. and in these vans. Same thing to the 98 I had. I am a mechanic and couldn't figure it out. Thought pin fell out but linkage moved. Brought in to tranny shop and they ended up getting used on for $800

Hi, I have a 98 Windstar that recently began having transmission problems. When we first drive it starts out fine but once we've driven several miles it will get stuck in 2nd gear.

The switches inside need to be replaced they are hanging up do this now before you ruin the clutches it will go back to normal shifting and work fine change all pressure torque lockup and shift switches diy for about 125.00 with fluid filter cost and back to normal shifting and a happy van and crew make sure vans not running hot burning fluid otherwise will happen again high temp burned fluid damages switches ability to work

F250 1998 light duty won't shift out of park

For car not changing gears and not shifting out of park mode ,it can be shifter assembly issue, or it can also be transmission issue. Get the shifter assembly inspected with ignition OFF.

For more troubleshooting, I suggest you to get the Following help link checked, its complete step by step procedure to inspect gear shift issues: -----

1998 malibu won't shift into gear when cold outside but, works fine in warm weather, why?

you need a transmission fluid and filter changed.because if filter stopped up.transmission fluid little thicker in cold climate make it hard circulate through filter.when engine and fluid get warmer fluid get thinner where it can circulate through filter cause transmission to shift correctly.

1998 ford windstar will not shift out of 2nd gear . I can manually shift from 1st to 2nd but it will not shift out of 2nd.

The best thing to do is take it back to the dealer, or a reputable transmission shop. Transmissions are highly technical and the average backyard mechanic can not work on them. It could be a servo or clutchpack inside the transmission, or an electrical problem, since the transmission is computer controlled.

My 98 Ford Windstar won't change past 2nd gear

check the white connector at the top of the transmission for corrosion. if this is unpluged it wont shift out of 1st... sounds like it may be the issue

Transmission problems

if it was me I would check the sensors on the transmission first and if those are ok I hate to tell you it could be your torque converter

2003 ford windstar

Check your transmission fluid level if at all possible. If your fluid is low you won't be able to engage any gears as there isn't enough pressurized fluid to shift the clutch or selector in the transmission box. If that's fine, next check the selector link and check it is connected to the transmission (not totally unheard of for it to come loose). Still no joy then it's the clutch...sorry.
