I took it to a couple of mechanics and they said it had a stuck valve. I tore the thing down and pulled the head and the valves are all seated and so some one said it's the lifters and i don't want to replace all the lifters, which I have out right now and put it back together and it still runs terribly. Do you think it could be the cam? I looked at the head and you can tell it's not firing in number 4 because it carboned up and all the others aren't
I had same problem and turned out mine had bad o rings on the injector. I could hear air being sucked in until i put my finger near it. Might try injector o rings. If you're getting good compression on that cylinder and all cylinders are reading same compression within at least no more then 5psi difference between each cylinder then it is certainly not your cam shaft or anything to do with timing.

Sounds like it needs spark plugs and wires, and a fuel system treatment.
SOURCE: 2000 Kia Sephia p0303 code engine misfires
do a compression test. cylinder 3 could have a bad valve lifter or valve.kia sephia dont have push rods.it have a bucket type followers.a intake leak to that cylinder can also cause misfire problems.
SOURCE: Truck not firing properly front coil pack not firing at all.
if this truck has an o2 sensor i would replace that and also make sure the cat-converter is not plugged, this would give you your powerloss and egr code, next is your coil, this may be caused by the computer or your crank sensor, look at the tone ring that the crank sensor uses and make sure its not missing teeth or broken, also check all your fuses.

According to Gates ( they manufacture timing belts ) the 2.3 L engine in a 1994
Ford Ranger is NOT an interference engine, so the valves would not make contact with the piston. If you have good spark and compression then replace or service your fuel injector for that cylinder. A red neck repair is to tap on a long extension touching the fuel injector while the engine is running. It may free up whatever is clogging it....If the injector still functions. Go easy on the cheap plastic that the injector is made of. also check for a good signal to the injector, and look for any corrosion on the plug.
