How to replace front cv shafts on a 1997 isuzu rodeo ?

On the 99 rodeos u have to remove the drivers cv axcel first and slide the whole axcel assembly towards the drivers side to removes passenger side it sucks but les schawb wont do it they say its dealer only so either do it ur self or pay out the @$$

Remove tire, remove axle nut, pop ball joint off, remove clip, pull axle

Rejakwilson @ aol.com For Full Illistrations (PICTURES) PREPARATIONS:

Jack up the vehicle and support it using jack stands.
Remove the tire and wheel.
Remove the drain bolt to drain differential oil.

NOTE:

During the work, be sure that the differential case is supported by the jack.
Remove the brake caliper fixing bolt and hang the caliper.
Remove the antilock brake system speed sensor. (If equipped with antilock brake system)

Hub assembly (Disc, back plate and knuckle):

Remove the locking hub.
Disconnect the knuckle and the suspension arm.

Steering link and arm assembly.
Suspension crossmember.
Propeller shaft.
Protector.
Breather Hose:

Remove the hose clips.
Disconnect breather hoses from front drive axle tube and disconnect housing.

Vacuum Hose. Disconnect vacuum hose from actuator. Shift switch connector (7a).
VSV Assembly. NOTE: Be sure not to remove hose and connector from VSV assembly.
Mounting bolt and nut.
Washer and spacer.
Bolt. Remove the mounting bracket fixing bolt.
Front axle case assembly and front drive shaft assembly (LH side). Lower the vehicle and disconnect the RH front drive shaft assembly, and then remove the front axle case assembly and front drive shaft assembly (LH).
Front drive shaft assembly (RH).

Im replacin the cv joints on passanger side and driver side how do i get the axle out of the transmission casing is ther a key behind the plate with the 4 bolts? my truck is a 99 isuzu rodeo LS 4wd

remove inner cv boot, just on inside edge is circlip which holds inner bearing joint into outer housing remove circlip and separate joint outer housing does not come out of front diff unless you drop or remove whole front diff assembly
will have to remove whole stub axle hub assembly to remove drive shaft from outer wheel stub axle (hub) assembly

Removing front cv joints

Best thing to do is take the inner joint apart and put the new parts on the shaft sticking out of the housing. Save hours of trouble, I have seen many done like this.

Replace cv shaft on 1996 isuzu rodeo. I have outer shaft free from hub, but how do you release the inner shaft? I see 4 bolts attached to the bell housing but not sure if I should remove them.

Yes the bolts will attatch to the bell housing. It sounds like you have the right idea. Pretty straight forward job. I find the easiest bolt to access, then spin the shaft by hand to the next one in N, then put in Park to remove if nessessary.
Try not to bend the CV joints too far when handling them, they are not designed for angles over 40 degrees or so. Make sure to torque all the bolts down to the specs.

Do not try to get the cv axle out ot the axle housing. It is a major operation. Remove boot and disconnect the inner cv joint and save about five hours of time. The choice is yours ,boot or reman cv axle. You will need to take the reman. axle apart to install it though and some new clamps. Not a simple operation.
