1992 Silverado temperature gauge quit working.

Check your coolant level, if it's too low it won't come in to contact with the temperature sensor.

Try taking the wire of the temp sender unit and touching the engine and see if the gauge goes up to hot. If so then replace the temperature sender unit ( different to the sensor unit)

check if the wire and the connector on the temperature sensor is either disconnected or broken.Also check if the temperature sensor is working or not. And last if all the others are working,check the temperature gauge if is working or not.

I would suggest having sensors checked......and fuses and relays...

The stepping motors in the gauges go bad. Do a search on ebay for CHEVY SILVERADO INSTRUMENT CLUSTER for cheaper repair options, dealer costs $300.00

The likely cause of this issue would lie in the gauge in the cluster itself. These gauges are all electronic so there wouldn't necessarily be any other electrical issues in the vehicle. I would recommend removing the dash and testing the circuit which connects to that particular gauge. If that circuit is faulty you have located your problem. You can purchase a used gauge cluster from an auto salvage yard or even have your cluster rebuilt.

Sounds like a bad thermostat, or blown head gaskets. replace the thermostat with one from the dealer. If you still have the problem one or both head gaskets are bad.
