Indicates a problem oil pressure sender unit
have the oil pressure checked using a mechanical pressure gauge and if OK then replace the sender unit or gauge

up to you but if the engine fails , that will be your expensive problem
surely there is a garage in the area that can come and do a oil pressure test

SOURCE: oil pressure drops to 0 at idle

OOO not good sounds like some of the head gasket got stuck somewhere, or the gauge or sender is bad or got knocked around when repairing the head gasket. I would check that first. If that checks out will need to drop the pan to see if something got stuck in the pickup tube, might as well change the pump while you are there. Or worst case some thing wrong with gasket job impeading oil flow back to bottom of the engine. Was the oil and filter changed ?if so pull out filter and see if an chunks are stuck in it now. And change oil and filter again. Sorry that was out of order I had a long day

Well it could be the sending unit for the gauge.
But odds are the oil pump or engine bearings are worn out.
As the engine warms up, the metal spaces expand and the oil gets thinner. The oil pressure drops some under normal conditions, but not more than 10 or 15psi. Normal idle pressure with the engine warmed up is probably 25psi.
You could check oil pressure with a mechanical gauge to make sure its not the sending unit.
Once the oil pressure starts staying below 20psi for long periods you'll start hearing noises.

Oil pump is going bad in my 1999 chevy lumina

First we would need to know when this occurs. Asuming the oil level is at the full mark!. If the pressure goes up during acceleration and down at idle when engine is fully warmed up, then this is normal. An engine requires 10 psi of oil pressure per 1,000 rpm ( ex. 20 psi at 2,000 rpm, 25 psi at 2,500 rpm, and so on ) . If the gauge is moving back and forth erratically at idle , i would say the gauge is bad. If it drops to 0 while accelerating I would say your oil pump is bad. If from time to time it seems to work and other times it seems not to work, I would say the oil pressure sending unit for the gauge is bad. If the pump failed you would start to here a Knocking noise from the engine in a short period of time. Use the above scenario's to narrow down what it may be.

get under the car and see if it seems wet or if anywhere is leaking, and does the car act any differently? If you let it drop to 0 is it running fine? If the car doesn't seem to have an issue then it's most likely you need a new sending unit for your oil pressure

In my 02' Trailblazer oil pressure gauge goes below 0

I have this same problem with my 2002 trailblazer; however, I goofed up and had a mechanic look at it, since I was perplexed as to what was going on with it. He told me the oil pump needed replacing and it ended up costing me around a $950. Needless to say, it still happens. A grand down the drain - it wasn't the oil pump. The oil level is always good. This generally occurs when I've run the vehicle for a while and then come to a stop. It occurs quite often during the spring/summer and doesn't happen all that much during colder months.
