The switch which is located under the dash above the brake pedal is most likely faulty or become out of adjustment. It is a basicly round switch with a plunger sticking out toward the brake pedal arm. There are two nuts which can be loostened so you can adjust the switch. When it is in the correct position the brake lights are activated when the brake pedal is depressed about 1/2 inch. Should you need to replace it loosten the bottom nut and push the switch upward and it will come out. Next unplug the wiring at the connector.
Check the brake light switch under the dash at the brake peddle and make sure its working if it does not close when you depress the brake peddle the lights will not work You may hve to remove the lower cover for the dash to get at the switch
make sure the button is working, it may need to be replaced. with your foot off the brake peddle, it is on upper part of brake peddle arm. when you let off brake peddle it pushes button in to shut lights off. it may just be stuck in, spray a little lubracant on it if it's stuck and push in manually several times to loosen.
