You may have an issue with the MAP sensor if this is an EFI engine. This part of the car dictates the fuel that is injected into the cylinders. It could be faulty. You may also want to check the fuel supply for your car. You car may not have the correct supply of fuel if the fuel filter is clogged and needs replacing. This can be true to carbs and EFI engines alike. For EFI you may also want to check the fuel pump if it provides constant supply of fuel. It may be weak and may not provide the correct amounts of fuel during acceleration.

For carbs, you may want to check for leaks in the vacuum hoses and the jets if they need cleaning.

Car idles fine but starts missing when given gas poping and sputtering

This could be caused by many different things. Do some research before you throw more parts at the problem. Try to extract the diagnostic code first. An engine needs 3 things to run: spark, fuel, and air. Your problem could arise from any of the 3 sources. Things to check include intake vacuum, ignition timing, fuel pressure to start. More information is needed to diagnose the symptoms you describe.

I have an 89 ford bronco 2 with a 2.9 liter it sat around for 2 years without being started. I replaced the plugs, rotor, cap, ran fuel injector cleaner through it several times, checked cylider...

check the spark plug wires are attached all the way till it snaps, pull each spark plugs, any black deposits on any plug means it isn't firing(faulty plug,or wire) last of all take off each injector wire and notice if there is a change in idle speed (plugged injector)

92 SL1 won't start, turns over but not getting gas, or floods

Try pulling the engine coolant temp sensor, They often crack not sure why but the ceramic tip cracks makes the car hard to start, the car's idle may race while shifting gears, and often smokes. The sensor is on the right side of the engine when looking at it on the head. Easy to change and get too

Engine Floods after brief start and run when cold -then shut off

Local mechanic determined engine was flooded and started it by holding throttle to the floor and cranking 5-7 seconds - then the engine sputtered to life. It has run perfectly before and since and I'm at a bit of loss to understand why this occurred this one time - so far. It's been driven now 5 days with no problems.
