U have a defective tensioner pulley or idler pulley due to a failed bearing
I have the same problem with my 95 plate, its to do with the pulley not aligning properly and the belt shredding on the casing. Landrover now do a modified pulley that corrects the alignment but expect to pay around £120 for the conversion but shop around 4 a better price.
Shredding timing belts? Well if the timing belt guide washer (Large washer that goes over the lower shaft after installing the belt) was put on with the beveled side out and curved inward that could shred a belt or if the tensioner for the belt was set too tight that could also shred one.
SOURCE: i connect a 1997 landrover discovery computer to the 1994 landrover discovery and it won't start.
if it is a mems unit , it will need to be programed to the key fob and alarm . (there is no way round it).
