2006 chevy equinox over heating. Replaced temp sensor, thermostat, cooling fans, flushed system. I have no idea how to check radiator myself instead of money flying out the window. What's the problem?

Get the engine warm and put the interia heater on hot, with the engine idling are the heaters hot ? If not or they get warm by reving the engine id be looking at the water pump

Are the 2 tubes that go to the heater core getting hot? If so, then the blend door is not opening to allow heat to get to the cabin.

Possible vacuum motor problem, either disconnected, or the controller for the blend door is broken is likely problem.

Troubleshooting by Symptom Poor Heater System Performance CAUTION
Check all fluid levels and adjust as needed, before operating vehicle for extended periods at idle.

  1. Start the engine.
  2. Idle the engine until the thermostat opens (upper radiator hose will be hot) Is the engine at normal operating temperature (approx. 200° F)? If yes, go to the next step. If no, go to step 16.
  3. Set the mode selector to FLOOR mode.
  4. Set the heater control selector to the warmest temperature setting.
  5. Set the blower speed the lowest setting.
  6. Carefully feel the inlet and outlet heater hoses at the heater core. Is the inlet heater hose significantly hotter than the outlet heater hose? If yes, go to step 14. If no, go to the next step.
  7. Set the mode selector to PANEL mode.
  8. Select the maximum blower speed.
  9. Select the warmest temperature setting.
  10. Place a thermometer into the center I/P PANEL air outlet and affix a second thermometer to the heater core outlet heater hose.
  11. Record the temperature at the center I/P PANEL air outlet and at the heater core outlet heater hose. Are the two temperature readings about equal? If yes, go to the next step. If no, go to step 13.
  12. Inspect and repair the cowl, cowl area, recirculation door, and the HVAC evaporator/heater core case for cold air leaks. Repair any problems found, go to step 17.
  13. Inspect the temperature door operation. Repair any problems found, go to step 17.
  14. Turn OFF the engine. Back-flush the heater core. Start the engine. Select the FLOOR mode and the lowest blower speed. Select the warmest temperature setting. Feel the temperature of the inlet and outlet heater hoses at the heater core. Is the inlet heater hose feel significantly hotter than the outlet heater hose? If yes, go to the next step. If no, go to step 17.
  15. Replace the heater core. When the repair is completed, go to step 17.
  16. Check for low engine temperature problems, Repair or replace as needed, go to step 17.
  17. Operate the system in order to verify the repair. If the system operates properly, the repair is complete. If the heater still does not work properly, repeat the entire procedure.
Air Door Actuators/Motors Removal & Installation Recirculation Actuator To Remove:
  1. Remove the right lower instrument panel (I/P) insulator.
  2. Remove the glove box assembly. Recirculation actuator (Typical) gm-10-00-3695.gif

  3. Remove the mounting screws and recirculation actuator from the HVAC module assembly.
  4. Disconnect the recirculation actuator harness connector.
To Install:
  1. Align the recirculation actuator slots with the flats on the actuator door shaft.
  2. Install and secure the recirculation actuator on the HVAC module assembly with the mounting screws.
  3. Connect the recirculation actuator harness connector.
  4. Install the glove box assembly.
  5. Install the right lower I/P insulator.
  6. Calibrate the recirculation actuator.
Mode Actuator To Remove:
  1. Remove the right lower instrument panel (I/P) insulator.
  2. Remove the glove box assembly. Mode actuator gm-10-00-4356.gif

  3. Remove the mounting screws and mode actuator from the HVAC module assembly.
  4. Disconnect the mode actuator harness connector.
To Install:
  1. Align the mode actuator slots with the flats on the actuator door shaft.
  2. Install and secure the mode actuator on the HVAC module assembly with the mounting screws.
  3. Connect the mode actuator harness connector.
  4. Install the glove box assembly.
  5. Install the right lower I/P insulator.
  6. Calibrate the mode actuator.
Air Temperature Actuator Right Side To Remove:
  1. Remove the right lower instrument panel (I/P) insulator.
  2. Remove the glove box assembly. Air temperature actuator (right side) gm-10-00-4356.gif

  3. Remove the mounting screws and right air temperature actuator from the HVAC module assembly.
  4. Disconnect the right air temperature actuator harness connector.
To Install:
  1. Align the right air temperature actuator slots with the flats on the actuator door shaft.
  2. Install and secure the right air temperature actuator on the HVAC module assembly with the mounting screws.
  3. Connect the right air temperature actuator harness connector.
  4. Install the glove box assembly.
  5. Install the right lower I/P insulator.
  6. Calibrate the mode actuator.
Left Side To Remove:
  1. Remove the left lower instrument panel (I/P) insulator. Air temperature actuator (left side) gm-10-00-4357.gif

  2. Remove the mounting screws and left air temperature actuator from the HVAC module assembly.
  3. Disconnect the left air temperature actuator harness connector.
To Install:
  1. Align the left air temperature actuator slots with the flats on the actuator door shaft.
  2. Install and secure the left air temperature actuator on the HVAC module assembly with the mounting screws.
  3. Connect the left air temperature actuator harness connector.
  4. Install the left lower I/P insulator.
  5. Calibrate the mode actuator.

SOURCE: need to flush cooling system of a 2005 chevy

You can buy a flush kit from your local auto supply store to add to your cooling system for this and future flushing. As for changing your thermostat - simply remove the thermostat housing - remove the old thermostat - replace with new (be sure it is the one rated for the season at hand) - replace gaskets (or use RTV gasket maker) and reinstall housing. Fill the system with proper % ratio of coolant to water (usually 50/50). Drive away happy.:) PS You can find your thermostat housing by following the top rad hose from the rad back to it at the intake manifold.

BY NO COOLANT AROUND OR COOLANT SENSOR NOT SUBMERGED IN COOLANT COOLING FANS WONT TURN ON.MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 50/50 ANTIFREEZE AND WATER. CHECK FOR CLAPSE RADIATOR HOSES.CHECK RADIATOR HOSE AT WATER PUMP.IF HOSE LOOK CLAPSE REPLACE IT AND BLEED COOLANT SYSTEM.IF EVERY THING HAS BEEN DONE YOU NEED ENGINE BLOCK FLUSHED OUT.HEATER CORE ALSO COULD BE STOPPED UP.A VERY HIGH MILEAGE ENGINE WILL OVER HEAT.OLD ENGINE LOSES COMPRESSION AND HORSE POWER.PUTTING MORE LOAD ON THE OLD ENGINE WILL MAKE IT OVER HEAT.IF COOLANT LEVEL IS LOW.BLEED COOLANT SYSTEM.START THE ENGINE LET IT IDLE FEW MINUTES WATCH THE COOLANT TEMPERATURE GAUGE.WHEN TEMPERATURE START RISING.TURN OFF THE ENGINE LET IT SET FOR 20 MINUTES.TAKE A LARGE RAG PLACE OVER RADIATOR CAP ON COOLANT EXPANSION TANK SLOWLY OPEN RADIATOR CAP JUST A LITTLE TO RELEASE A LITTLE PRESSURE AT A TIME.DONT OPEN CAP RAPIDLY OR YOU WILL GET SCALDED.ONCE THE RADIATOR CAP REMOVED.IF COOLANT LOW ADD MORE COOLANT IN THE THE COOLANT EXPANSION UNTIL YOU GET TO THE COLD MARK.REPEAT THIS PROCEDURE START ENGINE LET IT RUN UNTIL TEMP GAUGE START CLIMBING A BIT DONT LET CAR RUN TO OVER HEAT JUST IDLE UNTIL TEMP JUST START TO RISE.THEN YOU TURN OFF ENGINE. WAIT 20 MINUTES.THEN USE LARGE RAG OPEN RADIATOR CAP LITTLE AT A TIME. DO THIS PROCEDURE UNTIL THE COOLANT IN THE EXPANSION TANK STOP DROPPING. THEN ALL THE AIR IS BLEED OUT THE COOLANT.WHEN COOLANT LEVEL STOP DROPPING, WHEN YOU DRIVE CAR AROUND.AND TURN OFF ENGINE.WHEN ENGINE OFF CAR SET FOR A WHILE KEEP CHECK ON THE COOLANT LEVEL IN COOLANT EXPANSION TANK. THE COOLANT LEVEL SHOULD BE AT THE COLD MARK IN THE EXPANSION TANK.MAKE SURE COOLANT IS IN THE EXPANSION TANK.IF NOT AIR WILL DRAW IN COOLANT SYSTEM. CAUSING ENGINE TO OVER HEAT.IF BLEEDING AIR OUT THE COOLANT SYSTEM DONT HELP AND COOLANT FANS DONT TURN ON YOU HAVE PCM PROBLEMS.

So....is it running hot?....What does the temp guage say?....
This could be a number of different things..I wonder if the cooling fans are comming on?...I wonder if the radiator is flowing properly...Maybe the coolant temp switch is faulty...You prob need to take this to a qualified automotive repair shop to have some of these questions answered?

Do the cooling fans come on ? Your vehicle should have two fans controlled by The PCM - engine computer energizing three different relay's for low and high speed .

Why is my coolant overflowing when my 2006 Chevy equinox heats up?

thet moment stop your engine and grab top radiator hose, feel the heat then grab lower radiator hose they have to be hot same heat. Top hose very hot is radiator blockage, Or lower hose very hot thermostat damage ,for test thermostat tide whith a string or wire have one glass cold water and juck boiling water deep thermostat in and you have to see the opening if is not then you have to replace it. Don ever youse radiator flush with the thermostat on. Blown head gasket means continual air bubble when you remove radiator cap special white froth,check for loose or damage hose and heter leaks when cooling system is under pressure.check low and high rpm exhaust fumes.

Heater doesn't get hot on 96 chevy truck. Blows good, just cold. Replaced thermostat, flushed radiator. Any ideas?

Air Temperature Control Blend Door Failure No Heat or no AC (dependes on where door sticks)

In all modern cars there is a tiny DC electric motor driven gear drive that moves a plastic door that blends heated and cooled air from the AC and the heater core, this is called (interestedly enough) the air temperature control blend door actuator. The motor that moves this door fails because the door starts sticking from warping, most common complaint is no heat but it can be no AC as well. To replace these parts (blend door and blend door actuator) you must remove the entire dash from the car. Always have this problem confirmed by a dealer or qualified repair shop as it is a very expensive repair.

Other causes of no heat in the cabin are engine thermostats that are stuck open (engine runs cold) or air bubbles in the cooling system.

Just flushed rad heater core and block because i had no heat. flushed the system filled with new antifreeze. my temp gauge will change from 150 to 210 I have heat then i dont

Replace the thermostat. I have had bad luck with aftermarket thermostats on this particular year of GM/ Chevy trucks.They tend to stick closed and then fully open, thus causing the temp to sort of surge hot and cold. A good thermostat will slowly open maintaning a good consistant temp. I would recommend spending a little more and getting a GM thermostat.

My 2000 chevy impala has been overheating for 2 years now. I have tried everthing. First i had a raditior flush even though there is a sticker saying no maintainece is required for 100,000 miles well it...

is your electric fan working? Is it turning on when you turn the air on? If you have 2 fans on the radiator, is the other one turning on when engine starts to get hot? You seemed to have replaced everything else outside of a new engine block. Just make sure your fans are working properly.

2005 chev equinox,check engine light on,was diagnosed as engine coolant temp sensor,replaced and light came back on,also engine is running cold will not generate any heat... had car back to shop and they...

Lots of newer GM vehicles have a code that reads, engine temp below regulated temp or voltage, thats a thermostate issue. Also as mentioned this is a good time to do a flush.
