Sorry this is not an easy fix the clutch packs in the transmission are slipping, usually caused by wear, but the hydraulic pump is probably getting week. As the oil warms up the oil gets thinner and the hydraulic pressure decreases. Times for a overhaul of the transmission, and if the torque converter can not be flushed a new torque converter is recommended. You may get lucky buy changing the fluid several times, but if the transmission is 22 years old it may not help.

Change your transmission filter. You're probably not getting enough pressure to get the boost valve to kick the reverse solenoid. I would have the whole transmission flushed and filled if it's starting to act weird. Good luck.

SOURCE: 2001 dodge ram won't go into reverse

sorry but i dont have good news for you, this is a common problem with the dodge, what has happened is there is a drive drum inside the transmission that has a reverse drive gear inside it this has most likely broken, you will need to remove the transmission oil pan and look for junk inside the pan if you find more then a teespoon of metel in the pan or any brass you will need to replace the transmission......sorry

My reverse went out of my truck and I put it in neutral to push it backwards and its like I'm in drive andcan drive forward what can I do to fix it

If reverse is done and you can only go forward is it shifting out of first. If its not then you need the transmission rebuilt. That's what happened on my truck.

1999 dodge ram will only start in nuetral why

Assuming it is an automatic trans, the neutral safety switch may have failed. The switch prevents you from cranking the engine in drive or reverse.

I just purchased a 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 Mega cab. When I shift from drive accross Neutral to Reverse, the RPMs go way up then down like I hit the gas pedal or something. It also does it when I go from...

on some of the older (1996-2000) Ram products, the transmission kick-down linkage crosses the throttle cable assembly. if someone has worked on that, it may be rubbing each other when you shift, causing the "bump" in RPM's.
