Check for 5 volt reference signal at the TPS - throttle position sensor , could have shorted sensor causing the problem . Do you know what a computer 5 volt ref. signal is ? Video's on youtube . Your engine computer controls the starter motor relay which turns on the starter . Free wiring diagram's here http://www.bbbind.com/free-tsb Enter vehicle info. year , make , model an engine . Under system click on engine ,then under subsystem click on starting . Click the search button then the blue link. Find the starter motor relay in the under hood fuse / relay box , pull it out an look at the bottom , where the pins are . You should see four set's of numbers , 30 , 87 & 85 , 86 . PIn's 30 & 87 are for the power feed to starter , pin 30 should have battery volt if tested with a voltmeter . If you jumped pins 30 & 87 with a piece of wire if the starter is good an battery cable an connections are good the starter would spin the engine over . Just so your not confused , jump where the relay plugs into the fuse box , not the pins of the relay .

5 volt reference

If the 5 volt reference is good , check power an ground circuits to the PCM - engine computer .

If that is good , suggest you take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop for more indepth testing .

SOURCE: I have a 2008 pt cruiser. The engine light is on

My PT cruiser is a couple of years older, but I had the same problem. Drove fine, but start-up was erratic for several weeks. By the time  AAA arrived, it usually was working fine. But when it suddenly  started "struggling for power on the freeway and further along on the same trip, lurching (on a city avenue) I drove straight to my mechanic. It WAS the same sensor . . . and car has been driving perfectly ever since he changed it.

SOURCE: '05 PT Cruiser O2 sensor problems.

I had a similar problem with my car. It turned out the O2 sensors were fine and the issue was a leak in the throttle body causing the engine to run lean. If you have an ODB2 scanner you can look at fuel trims, etc and will be able to tell.

2005 PT Cruiser no crank

sounds like the crank position sensor. check continuity and 5volts reference at sensor. you can have it checked by someone with a Good scanner(SNAP-ON). If it happens to start up,drive the car till it wont start up again; unplug the crank position sensor and count to 5 then plug it back in. If it starts then its the crank sensor.(just a quick way to test it and get you home or to a shop)

My 2006 PT Cruiser just died when I stopped at a traffic light and would not crank. I have had the Crankshaft Censor replaced and it still will not crank. Any suggestions as to what to try now?

If it the same model, only the year is different, the cylinder should fit.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2008 pt cruiser - check engine light came on, within minutes it started to "power down" and and died. Won't start. What could cause this? BTW have changed spark plugs, camshaft sensore, cranks

My PT did that when my timing belt broke. It cost $500.00 to replace it. If it is broken, be ready to have some motor work done. I had to have to values replaced at a cost of $900.00. If your timing belt is not broken then check the alternator and battery. I was riding down the road and my PT shut all the way down and would not start. I had to leave it beside the road. It was my alternator. It gave me no warning.

Where is crank sensor on 2005 PT Cruiser? It absolutely is not above the oil filter as on 01-03 PT's.

REMOVAL - 2.0, 2.4, 2.4L TURBO
The Crankshaft Position Sensor is in the front of the engine block just under the starter motor (CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR LOCATION).

Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Raise vehicle and support.
On 2.4L SRT-4 remove the lower inner cooler hose from the metal tube.
Remove the Structural Collar (Structural Collar and Bending Strut-(Automatic Transaxle Equipped) ), refer to the Engine, Structural Collar Removal and Installation section.
Unlock and disconnect the electrical connector to the crankshaft position sensor.
Remove the crankshaft position sensor bolt.
Remove the sensor. Arrow points to sensor in picture.

Were i the crankshaft position sensor located o a 2005 pt cruiser

near the oil filter.. above it...under exhaust manifold one small bolt holds it on. If the is a no start condition look for frayed wiring near crank sensor..... it has a harness that hangs too low on some of those. & rubs on cv shaft
