If you have one fan on the vehicle, the fan speed is controlled by a fan module based on temperature or A/C high side pressure. Some vehicles have 2 relays in the relay black box in the engine compartment. You need to call the dealer and give them your vin number and they can tell you what you have narrowing down your search.

SOURCE: need to replace thermostat 2000 taurus

If it's the 3.0L Vulcan Engine (OHV), the thermostat is on the driver's side of the vehicle. Follow the upper radiator hose back to a metal area with three 10mm bolts. This is the thermostat housing. Undo the bolts, and there's the thermostat. Mark the back of it with the old thermostat in it (if you get one with a jiggle valve, it'll make it easier to put the new one in because the jiggle valve needs to be on top). The thermostat and housing aren't perfectly round, so you'll have to play with it a little to get it to line up. Make sure to change the gasket. The spring side of the thermostat goes into the engine.

The water pump is in the serpentine assembly. It's the larger pulley located toward the firewall. It'll be easiest to remove the water pump if you also remove the coolant recovery tank. The water pump pulley has four 1/2" bolts that you need to take out WITH THE BELT STILL ATTACHED. I can't stress this enough. The belt will keep the pulley in place so that you can remove the bolts. Take the pulley off, then the belt. Remove the heater hose at the top and the radiator hose at the bottom. There are 12 bolts of two diameters (1/2" and 10mm if I'm not mistaken). Tap the heater hose lightly with a soft-faced mallet to break the seal with the gasket. Trash the old gasket. Replace gasket (you can also line the mating surface of the water pump with RTV Sealant, put the new gasket on the new pump, and line the other side of gasket with a second coat of RTV sealant if you want a really good seal). Install the water pump and torque to manufacturer's specs. Attach the pulley to the water pump hand tight and put the belt back on. Tighten the pulley bolts. Put the coolant recovery tank back in place. Fill with coolant, start engine, bleed and check for leaks.

To bleed cooling system: Idle the engine until the thermostat opens (you'll be able to tell bacause the upper radiator hose will be uber hot and you'll feel coolant running through this hose). Squeeze all hoses in the system that you can reach, but don't burn yourself. Stop the engine and let it cool. Open the radiator cap and squeeze the COLD upper radiator hose. You'll see some bubbles in your recovery tank. You might have to monitor your coolant level for a couple of days while the final bits of air are purged through your radiator cap (that's why it's pressurized).

Hope this helps. It's not hard, but it took me quite awhile.

The cooling fan on a ford car usually does not have a fuse. The cooling fans are controlled by a relay in the power distribution box inside the engine compartment. The box is usually located near the battery. Your owners manual should have a guide showing you what each relay in the box is for.

The cabin fuse box is located under the dash on the drivers side and the main fuse box is under the hood in the front of the engine above the radiator on the drivers side

Which relay is for the fans on 2001 ford Taurus

There are 2 relays for the cooling fans. They are located in the power distribution box located in the engine compartment (see picture below of location). there is a low speed fan relay located in the number 24 position and a high speed fan relay located in the number 32 position (see layout picture below). If your fans are not working at all you may also want to look at the "maxi" fuse in the number 9 position as that gives power to those relays. i hope this helps and good luck.

2000 Ford Taurus, V6, auto trans, new thermostat installed, still over heating, not sure if cooling fans are starting. Checked all fuses. Any ideas?

first i would check the cooling fan relays, when the temp gauge gets anywhere between over half and overheating you should hear the relays switch(it will make a clicking sound). but do not let the car overheat! Secondly the fans are controlled by the cooling fan temp switch/sender, this is located on the radiator, and you should check to see if the fan is getting power by using a volt-meter to check for the proper 12 volts. Finally if they still do not kick on you will need to replace the cooling fan motor(s).

You may ahve a bad engine coolant temp sensor. If it goes, the cooling fans default to always on high speed.

Where is the oil sending unit on a 1996 ford taurus 3.0 liter engine located? glenn

On 3.0L OHV engines, the oil pressure sensor is located on the left side of the engine block above the flywheel. On 3.0L DOHC engines the sensor is located on the left side of the engine block above the oil filter. On 3.4L DOHC engines the sensor is screwed into the oil filter adapter. The oil pressure sensor operates the oil pressure warning lamp.

2000 Ford Taurus - A/C fan only works on high; cool air is "available" but not blown as fan won't run, except in "high" position. Any suggestions?

The low speeds(all of them) are distributed threw the fan speed switch to the blower motor resister.The resister is the problem.It is located very near the blower motor.It has two screws mounting it to the blower box.It has a plug in with about 5 to 7 wires.Unplug this plug to the resister.Remove the screws.Pull the resister toward you,it mounts and rest inside of the blower case,this is how it is cooled.Now when you replace the resister,replace the blower motor.Even if the bower motor is running fine, it is pulling to many amps for the resister.It will happen again soon,if you don`t replace the blower motor.If I can help you any more,please let me know.

I'm trying to find out how many cooling fan relays are in a 1999 Ford Taurus SE with the 3.0L Vulcan OHV engine. This model year has done away with the CCRM (Constant Control Relay Module), so the relays...

fuse #9 protects the 2 cooling fan relays.

It looks like the hgh speed cooling fan realy is in a thin box mounted sideways between the battery and fender.

It has high speed relay, autolamp relay, autolamp headlamp relay, horn relay, washer motor relay, wiper hi/lo relay, wiper park relay.

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION Electrical System NOTE: With A/C ON, the cooling fan motors will run continuously. Cooling fan motors will not cycle ON and OFF with A/C clutch (2884) .

NOTE: An exception to this is when vehicle speed is over 61 km/h (38 mph) and coolant temperature is below 100°C (212°F), and A/C head pressure is below 1.71 MPA (250 psi). The cooling fan motors will then automatically shut off.

The cooling fan motors are mounted within a fan shroud (8146) behind the radiator (8005) .

Engine Cooling Fan Control CCRM Applications The PCM monitors certain parameters (such as engine coolant temperature, vehicle speed, A/C on/off status, A/C pressure, etc) to determine engine cooling fan needs. The PCM controls the fan operation through the Fan Control (FC) output (single speed fan applications) or the Low Fan Control (LFC) and High Fan Control (HFC) outputs as shown in Table 2. Although the fan control (FC), low speed fan control and high speed fan control relays are normally open relays, the FC/LFC circuit is wired through a voltage inverter inside the CCRM. The voltage inverter ensures that the PCM must turn on (ground) the FC/LFC output to turn the fan off. This is done so the cooling fan will operate in the event of an open FC/LFC circuit.

Stand-Alone Fan Control Relay Applications The PCM monitors certain parameters (such as engine coolant temperature, vehicle speed, A/C on/off status, A/C pressure, etc) to determine engine cooling fan needs. The PCM determines engine cooling fan control requirements and controls the fan operation through the Low Fan Control (LFC) and High Fan Control (HFC) outputs (Table 3).
