There's a secondary latch above the main latch that needs to come in contact with the striker plate in order to lock the door. If you press it in while using the key, it will allow the key barrel to fully rotate. Here's a video demonstration -

SOURCE: Drivers side door lock barrel fell out???

This is a common fault on A4 VAG cars (Mk 4 Golfs, Skoda Octavias, Seat Leon, Beetle, Audi TT , Audi A3) you will need to remove the door card from the inside. Repair kits are available so it may be possible to repair the lock barrel but for the effort htat is required to remove the door card I would replace the lock barrel rather than repair it.

SOURCE: key wont turn in ignition barrel on my bmw 316 compact (N REG)

had this problem myself recently and i had to remove steering wheel and side covers remove shear bolts from lock housing using a smal chisel that lets you lake of lock housing and steering lock to replace them your local bm dealer should be able to order the correct one to fit your key, your car will still run with key out but you have to insert it to start it.

SOURCE: '91 LS400, trunk will not

If you hear the sound of the electric latch switch, then it's working but stuck somehow. Just put the key in the switch and turn it to the right and then pull up the trunk or ask someone to help you. it will open. I tried it today and it opened with me. It was stuck from inside by some kind of a broken plastic pieces. Just removed it and now it's working fine. good luck

My 1989 BME 325i will not turn all the way through to start position

sounds as the barrel is broken or malfunctioning. you will need to remove the plastic cowling to gain full access to the ignition barrel which may give you a clearer picture of whats actually wrong. sometimes the steering lock tab gets jammed preventing full key turn

Part on my key snapped off in the ignition. What is the best way to get it out? Or do I need to replace the whole ignition?

It's not all bad.
remove cowling and re-insert partial key.
Turn to the ACC/ intermediate key position .

The IGN barrell will be held in place by a location "***" on the IGN barrell in the lock assy.
Press this "***" while the key is in assy position and the Key/barrell should be able to be removed. The IGN barrell needs to be in the on/acc position in order to be removed for obvious reasons. Good Luck

How can i take the ignition switch off the clip that u push to take the key out is stuck

Hi ,
If you mean the ignition key barrel ??? The key needs to be inserted into the switch assy and turned to (usually) the first key position, there will be a small hole in the barrel assy in order to press a locating pin (check replacement barrel for exact location). Press the pin and pull the key assy from the barrel assy. ( door locks can be coded to new key also) Good Luck

I have an Isuzu Rodeo and the key is stuck in the ignition any idea how to get it out? Year 2000

replace the whole ignition barrel with new key and get key programmed by dealer
can remove barrel and key by removing steering column covers turn ignition to on position and with small shank screw driver push in hole in outer top rear section of barrel assembly then pull out ignition lock barrel with key in it. fit new lock barrel and key, program new key into system and can get door lock barrels coded to suit new key or get code for old key and cut new key so it fits mechanical locks on the rest of the vehicle (just wont turn in ignition) 2 keys for vehicle.

Fault in Central Locking

The barrel is easy to remove and based on replacing mine(the same problem with someone elses help) when a rat forced it with a screwdriver one night but failed except to damage 3 of my locks.Open the door and by the inside area of the door handle end theres a small torx screw, undo it a few turns and the smaller piece of the handle will be loose to the touch, turn a little more(screw wont come out fully) and remove the barrel in one piece.I stripped mine and using a breakers yard barrel i took the numbered little key slots inside and put them in the same code as mine to use the origional key.All key slots are numbered so write down your sequence when stripping down it's easy.

We are trying to remove the lock cylinder to replace, but can only get the key in halve way. It is a 2001 Daewoo Lanos. Already have the new one, we are worried about damaging the column and leary about...

you need key in and in on position to remove barrel while pressing in lock pin (in hole) in column if cant get key in or turn drill out barrel with under sized drill bit and slowly go up in drill bit size until you can dig out and remove barrel, lock smiths can come to site and do these type of repairs if needed.
