SOURCE: Remove plenum on 1998 Interpid
Assuming it is a 2.7 litre, you can get to the rear bolt of the housing with a quarter drive 8 mm wobble socket. If you have to lift the plenum, there are bolts down the center that will need a 10 mm socket. The center cover (if it still has one) just lifts off.
SOURCE: I need to remove the upper intake manifold plenum.
There are no fasteners inside the plenum, The electrical connection for the injectors is very tight due to a rubber ring gasket the seals the injector assembly to the plenum. Carefully push down on the electrical assmbly while prying up the plenum. You also may have to remove the thermostat and hose. I've done this 3 times on my ladies 96 Yukon.
SOURCE: Van is sputtering after changing
Hello! I strongly suspect a defective Throttle Positioning Sensor (TPS)...It is held in place on the throttle body by two bolts,,,It has a three wire connector with the following wire colors...Gray/Red.....
Gray/White...and Brown/White...Cost is around $40...If you have a volt meter it can be tested...Using two safety pins...Push the point of one into the rear of the in-place connector...On the Gray/White wire...The other into the Brown/White wire...Set meter to read 5 volts...Connect the + probe to the Gray/White...And the - probe to the Brown/White...Start the engine...Meter should read, at idle, less than 1 volt (.85)...SLOWLY increase the throttle...Meter should climb to 4 volts at open throttle...If the voltage skips, jumps, or acts erratic the TPS is defective.............Guru........saailer

SOURCE: Upper Intake Plenum Gasket R+R Torque Sequence
I cannot post a picture here because that is copyrighted material. However, the torque sequence is always "start in the center and work your way out to both ends...pretty simple.
The torque specifications are different depending on which engine your Escape is equipped with.
