Dear Gwen,
Now is the time to visit either a BMW dealer, or any auto body shop, and ask them for help.
If your car has the ability for the rear seat cushion to fold down, perhaps you could go through into the trunk from the back seat and unlatch it.
Other than that, an electrical problem would be most likely problem, and an adjustment the second.
God bless your efforts.

Yes, it has a fuse but I do not have a diagram unfortunately. Or it could be your indicator switch on the inside driver's side of the trunk. The remote will not work if the trunk is already open OR if the switch is bad/not contacting the stopper (at the base of the trunk) and falsley telling the PCM that the trunk is ajar. But if this were the problem, your should be getting a warning that your "trunk is ajar" from the onboard warning display on the guage cluster. The switch is cheesy...had to replace mine.

I hope you have rear fold down back seats in the rear. You will need this in order to climb into the trunk and remove the carpet like covering that is on the underside of the trunk lid. There are just a bunch of plastic retainers and remove the tool kit. From there you can reach in and pull the rod that releases the trunk latch. Then you can find out what is going on with the electronics.

You might be able to take the back seat out and get in from there.
Otherwise you will have to get a key cut by a locksmith or the dealer.
And I doubt the dealer still has key blanks for anything more than 5 yrs old..
