The main reason for this is tapered dog teeth for the engagement of the gears
the teeth have to be square and parallel but continued use of the gears without using the clutch means that only partial engagement is achieved and eventually the teeth are worn as tapers
While gear selections can be done by use of rpm and no clutch, Eaton do not recommend the practice and refuse warranty when it is found
Are you double clutching??
SOURCE: transaxe roadrange switch keeps blowing
If a fuse keeps blowing, it usually means something is amiss
in the circuit. The wiring should be checked along with the components
in the circuit to determine if there's a short or other problem.
It could be a lot of potential issues... ECM... Transmission
solenoid(s).... electrical short, just to name a few. It seems with
the dash display issue it's most likely electrical and not mechanical.
I would say IMHO that you should take it to a reputable repair shop
(Ford or independent) and have it diagnosed. I would assume you do not
have an "engine check light" on. You may also want to check to see if
there's been a Tech Service Bulletin issued.
Hope this helps.
