If I am not mistaken, on the MDX all the blend doors are direct motor driven, not cable. That said there are a few different door motors, the most problematic is the one that controls temp which is located above the accelerator pedal. You cut the cross bar away with some diagonals and throw it away. It is just an assembly aid when they are putting the car together. Google "DIY MDX cabin air filter" and you will find step by step procedures with photos for changing the filter. It is not a difficult job.

It sounds like you are low on R134 freon, you might have a leak or maybe it just needs a recharge.
