1998 Pontiac Bonneville overheat

Ran out of gas. Car starts, but begins to overheat immediately. Could this be the computer needing reset?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

What do you mean by overheat?Usually a vehicle has to run a little while before it overheats. Is the the radiator over flow boiling or over flowing?A computer cannot cause your car to overheat.

No the computers only job is too turn on the fans. check for enough antifreeze check for leaks. these cars are known for leaks. if the water pump is broke internally it will overheat with in minutes, or if the thermostat is stuck it will overheat too.

Dont touch the gas pedal or it might flood and not start. Have someone spray a little starting fluid in the Air filter tube while you try to start it.

My 1998 Pontiac Bonneville SE is stalling every now and then.

It could be a dozen different things unfortunately. You need to have it checked for computer trouble codes to know where to begin. An auto shop or auto parts store can check for trouble codes. For free service check with an auto parts store like Auto Zone first.
