I'm a lifelong Technician, but I know situations and problems differ a lot sometimes. I've had this very issue. It was my transmission toasted that caused this issue, I bought a little time by adding a container full of brake fluid which causes the internal seals to expand and make things work better for a little while. But it's no fix, maybe yours isn't shot, but I'd try the brake fluid as it can't hurt. Mine was the same way, like it had a 4000-5000 RPM Stall Converter and didn't engage 1st Gear or move at all u til 4K-5K was reached. A week later I lost all forward gears and then had to drive home in reverse which thankfully wasn't far but far enough! It sounds like you've changed fluid since you've changed the solenoids in the pan, if you didn't change both the fluid/filter you could try that but I'm sure you did, be sure to drain and change the fluid in the torque converter too.

CHECK OUT THE LINK IVE ATTACHED TO THIS MESSAGE AS IT HAS SOME VALUABKE TROUBLESHOOTING AND DIAGNOSTIC INDORMATION THAT WILL PROVE HELPFUL IN NARROWING THIS DOWN. READ IT AS THOROUGHLY AS POSSIBLE- IT MAY SAVE YOU A FEW $$$$$$!!!

Did it have the good old "Burnt" smell when you drained ir have smelled the transmission fluid. Add some brake fluid or Lucas Transmission Treatment to see what you're working with. After I did so, it dropped right into gear at a normal idle speed like everything was perfect, I was changing It about a week or so later. Maybe you'll be luckier than I was- but I appreciate honesty and thought you would too. I'd start looking for a good used transmission or someone to build one. There's an add on the Greensboro, NC craigslist for a guy that builds bullet proof/upgraded transmissions guaranteed not to fail for about $849. Even if that's not close by, it may be worth looking into or finding a similar situation closer. Shipping is pretty cheap these days, it may be a great solution.

Thanks again and have a great day!

1st thing to do is test the system for codes, the problem is most likely a failed or stuck shift solenoid indside the trans, have you ever serviced the trans, sometimes a fluid and filter cahnge will cure these kinds of issues.

My truck is stuck in four wheel drive

At the risk of going to the offensive, sometimes it's the simplest thing - you ARE putting it in neutral, at a stop, engine running, with the brake pedal pressed, when trying to shift out of 4wd, yes?

2) Check for blown fuse for 4x4 shift module

3)This sounds dumm, but worked on my wife 99. I took it to a school parking lot, put it in reverse, floored it and pulled on the lever and it popped out of 4x4

4) The shift motor is bad. Replace it.

Hope this helps.

Stalled while driving

Sounds like the engine is starving for fuel. You might try changing the fuel filter. It also cold be water in your fuel tank. Try putting some dry gas in the tank.

2000 ford expedition will not change gears after reaching 40mph then car goes into neutral. Then if i put the car into overdrive it runs fine.

The infamous Exploder transmission. Try a tranny flush and new gasket. More likely it needs a new transmission.

Our 2000 Ford Expedition only puts out heat after being driven a mile or two even if it has been idling for a long period

when idiling in the winter it doesnt get hot enough until you raise rpms, that gets the motor hot enough to open thermostat so water starts circulating throughout the whole system.

Have 1999 Ford Expedition xlt. My gear indicator is messed up, When I am in drive, it shows 2, when i am in park it shows reverse.

This comes straight from the repair manual..
1. Remove the upper steering column cover.
2. Put the shifter in drive position.
3. Move the shift lever clockwise until it stops (all the way to first gear position, then move it back two detent positions to the Drive position.
4. Hang an a weight (something) with 8 pounds of weight on the lever to hold it in place.
5. Center the indicator neddle in the middle of drive position.
6. Rotate the thumbwheel on the bottom of the steering column to remove all slack from the indicator cable.
7 Install the upper steering column cover.

Ford : back the truck up 10ft put truck in neutral and disengage four wheel low. (You can't drive in four wheel low cause its a pulling gear and you won't do over 3-5 mph.)
Nissan: start truck see if it idles normal. If so rev motor and check throttle for sticking and check EGR valve make sure its not stuck open or malfunctioning when you drive it..
