Why are my 2006 saturn ion 2, 2.2L burning more gas?

For that code to appear the answer is most likely yes --it will affect fuel economy
Why because if the coolant is free to flow then the engine operating temp is not reached and so the engine coolant sensor reports that the engine needs more fuel and the air fuel mixture is adjusted to rich as a result

You have an Evap System problem and yes, this can cause poor gas mileage. Possible causes are:

• Plugged vapor canister
• Faulty vent solenoid
• Pinched or blocked EVAP hose

Time for a tune up..New air filter, spark plugs,wires, pvc valve...It makes a diffrents ...Also change gas stations.. Some gas is a lot better for you car..These are the ones I would start with..If you car is running good...Try replacing the pcv valve and air filter first.... Hope this helps

A lot of things can cause a car to burn more gas. A clogged fuel filter, bad spark plugs and spark plug wires. Also a clogged O2 sensor will cause the engine to work harder reducing fuel mileage. Perform a complete tune up, replace the spark plugs and wires, replace the fuel filter and air filter.

Your injectors are floading the engine with too much gas. may be an injector stuck open, but not all of the fuel is burning in the engine and its running into the exhaust system, A hot catalytic converter ignites the excess fuel causing it to ignite and spark out your tail pipe. It can cause a huge fire. Dont drive it until its fixed.

had a similar problems with my saturn, at lights and stop sings i would get a low idle and almost like it was about to stall.

1- the delar will tell you it may be an altornator problem, this is most likly not it.
2- SPARK PLUGS, i changed mine and my engine ran a lot smother and less "almost stalling" (also wont hurt to change your spark plugs.
3- fule injectors and filter may be clogged and dirty. Replace both.

all of this you can do by your self with less then $200 and and about 3 hours for every thing. Take your time plan out your route and ask the guys at your local car parts shop for more advise.

Hi there, sounds like this car might have either a bad coil pack or the distributor cap has gone bad. 3 most important things are air, fuel and 12v power. Seems your getting all three but one of them is giving you trouble. Sounds like spark. Try a new distributor cap or a new set of coils and see if that solves the problem.

if it isnt the spark it has to be fuel or air which would lead to lack of fuel pressure which can cause sluggish behavior or the air sensor in the intake if there is any is not working properly and the computer is running on a safety fuel map that is a base map used by manufacturers which burns alot of fuel but stops the engine from destroying it self. Check the coils o the sensors.
